Associate / Principal Electrical Design Engineer Data Centres & Mission Critical

About the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an Associate / Principal Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Data Centres & Mission Critical projects. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves leading multidisciplinary design, advisory, and delivery for critical data centre infrastructure across the region. The role requires a minimum of 10 years of experience.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing client engagement, project strategy, technical excellence, and team leadership. This includes ensuring that all data centre solutions adhere to global standards for resilience, sustainability, and scalability. The role also involves driving business development and expanding the mission-critical and data centre service offerings.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, integration, and delivery of electrical and MEP systems for mission-critical data centre projects.
• Provide technical governance by reviewing and approving engineering deliverables in line with global standards and client requirements.
• Drive the development of modular, cloud, colocation, and hyperscale data centre solutions.
• Act as the primary client interface, building trusted advisory relationships across key accounts in the region.
• Lead technical workshops, design reviews, and senior stakeholder presentations.
• Own project strategy, ensuring delivery excellence across lifecycle stages from concept to execution.
• Drive business development, including bid leadership, proposal strategy, and commercial positioning.
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities in digital infrastructure, hyperscale, and cloud ecosystems.
• Collaborate with regional leadership to expand the mission-critical/data centre service offering.
• Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, civil, and architecture.
• Oversee resource planning, utilization, and capability development within the data centre practice.
• Ensure all solutions meet benchmarks for resilience, sustainability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in mission-critical/data centre design, delivery, or advisory.
• Strong understanding of Tier standards, NFPA, ASHRAE, and Uptime Institute guidelines.
• Proven experience in GCC markets, specifically UAE and/or KSA.
• Experience working with large consultancies or international engineering firms.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing abilities.
