The role involves ensuring the physical security of AWS personnel, facilities, and customer data, a critical aspect of the services AWS provides globally.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

As a Cluster Security Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and verifying compliance with security procedures, standards, and policies. Your role will focus on optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of physical security across multiple facilities. You will champion new initiatives, oversee their implementation in coordination with various business partner teams, and drive processes to achieve industry-leading security while managing costs through process improvement and technology enhancements. This position demands autonomy, discretion, creativity, and sound judgment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with data center business partners to execute a comprehensive security strategy that enables customer capacity growth.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing security programs such as Emergency Response, Crisis Management, Physical Security, and Incident Management.
  • Coordinating site investigations with the Global Intelligence and Investigative team.
  • Maintaining extensive knowledge of industry trends, current security issues, and security technology, and updating management on risks and threats.
  • Performing continual risk analysis for data center sites, considering threats from crime, terrorism, workplace violence, and natural or man-made disasters.
  • Providing leadership and best practices on security policy and procedures to on-site data center management.
  • Identifying vulnerabilities early and designing strategies to address existing or emerging security gaps.
  • Providing clear guidance and direction to AWS Data Center staff and contract security personnel.
  • Supporting regional and global security leadership in investigating significant threats or asset loss.
  • Developing and implementing security standards and procedures for contract site security coordinators.
  • Liaising with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies.

Required Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in a relevant field. You must be comfortable operating with autonomy and discretion, demonstrating significant creativity and judgment. The ability to define structure, processes, and standards in ambiguous environments is essential. You should be confident, decisive, influential, and capable of communicating a clear set of outcomes. Adaptability to a dynamic operational environment, including changing customer requirements and evolving security threats, is crucial. The role requires the ability to work at pace, adjust priorities, and apply knowledge of physical security, including the interplay between physical and logical data protection. Interaction with demanding customers and meeting short-notice deadlines are also part of the role's demands.

Leadership and Strategic Execution

This leadership role requires the ability to develop strategy and execute data center security operations across multiple sites. You will lead cross-functional teams, write security strategies, and drive processes to achieve industry-leading security standards. The capacity to influence and define high standards for programs you lead, implement, and monitor at all levels is expected. You will be instrumental in delivering on the physical security mission, mitigating risk, and balancing trade-offs in cost, efficiency, and operational challenges.
