About UNICEF and the Gulf Area Office

UNICEF operates in over 190 countries and territories, dedicated to saving children’s lives, defending their rights, and helping them fulfill their potential from early childhood through adolescence. The UNICEF Gulf Area Office (GAO), based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, works to advance children's rights and strengthen strategic partnerships with Gulf governments and institutions. We are seeking a Communication Specialist (Strategic Advisory Executive Communications and Donor Reporting) for a temporary appointment.

Strategic Context of the Gulf Area Office

In alignment with national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals, the GAO combines policy engagement and technical cooperation within high-income-country contexts. It fosters partnerships that leverage Gulf leadership, expertise, and financing to maximize impact for children regionally and globally. The office is strategically repositioning itself as a globally influential hub, building deep trust and technical credibility, and harnessing the resources and ambition of the GCC states. This temporary role is integral to supporting this strategic positioning.

Role Purpose and Duration

This contractual role is a Temporary Appointment designed to provide dedicated strategic advisory, executive communications, reporting, and quality-assurance support to the GAO Director. The assignment spans from September to December 2026, a period during which the UNICEF Gulf Area Office will manage an intensive schedule of major events, high-level partnership meetings, and critical donor-reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategic planning and positioning initiatives for the Gulf Area Office.
  • Support executive communications and external engagement efforts.
  • Assist with evidence-based donor reporting and ensure quality assurance of all reports.
  • Contribute to knowledge management and institutional learning processes.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, strategic advisory, reporting, or a related field. A strong understanding of international development, donor relations, and executive-level support is essential for this role.
