About the Role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Facility Engineer (Mechanical) to join its Infrastructure Services team in Riyadh. This full-time role is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous availability of cloud services for customers. You will be part of a team focused on maintaining and operating the mechanical and electrical equipment within AWS data centers.
Role Overview
As a Data Center Facility Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the hands-on operation and maintenance of AWS data center facilities. This position requires a process-oriented approach to troubleshoot and manage critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, upholding the highest standards of safety and security while contributing to operational excellence. Your work directly impacts customer availability and the reliable upkeep of the technical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote world-class safety standards, ensuring the remediation of safety risks in collaboration with other teams.
- Support the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including HVAC systems, chillers, and exhaust fans.
- Operate and maintain electrical equipment such as Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and Transformers.
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures and drive innovation to reduce operational costs.
- Conduct daily operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Supervise contractors during servicing or preventive maintenance activities.
Work Schedule and Environment
This role operates on a rotational shift schedule of 4 days of 12-hour shifts (2 days followed by 2 nights), with 4 days off. This includes nights, weekends, and holidays. You will be part of an on-call rotation and may need to respond to emergency calls outside of regular duty hours. The work may involve tasks performed in outdoor weather conditions, noisy environments, and at heights or from ladders. Occasional movement of materials may be required, adhering to weight regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, construction management, or a similar technical field.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC and controls.
- Understanding of key electrical competencies and theory.
- Experience leading and managing operations of critical facilities with in-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data center engineering.
- Familiarity with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
