Job Description

About the Role

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, * is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee property maintenance in Riyadh, Ad Dir'iyah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of experience and focuses on maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with an emphasis on safety, security, and asset protection. The role involves managing budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Administer service contracts to support property needs and ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Lead the emergency response team for all facility issues and maintain property life safety systems, including fire fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
  • Develop and manage the Engineering budget, overseeing execution of long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
  • Supervise construction projects to ensure timely completion within budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage controllable expenses such as wages, heat, light, power, water consumption, tools, equipment, and grounds keeping supplies.

Engineering Operations and Budget Management

  • Collaborate with property and regional engineering leadership to assess performance against budget and identify areas of concern.
  • Coach and support the engineering leadership team in effectively managing controllable expenses.
  • Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property/brand’s business strategy.
  • Review financial reports and statements to evaluate Engineering's budgetary performance.
  • Communicate departmental goals clearly and consistently to achieve desired results.

Maintaining Standards and Profitability

  • Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
  • Manage areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports.
  • Participate in the development of the department's capital expenditure goals and manage projects as needed.
  • Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques.
  • Educate staff on the impact of department operations on overall property financial goals.

Human Resources and Team Leadership

  • Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably, and that disciplinary procedures comply with SOPs and LSOPs.
  • Utilize employee feedback and an open-door policy to address problems or concerns promptly.
  • Recognize team member contributions publicly to celebrate successes.
  • Resolve guest problems and complaints, escalating issues to Human Resources when necessary.
  • Facilitate regular, ongoing communication within the engineering operation to convey daily activities, set expectations, and raise awareness of business objectives.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a high level of property maintenance knowledge and 5-10 years of relevant experience. The role requires the ability to develop and implement strategies that deliver products and services meeting or exceeding guest and employee expectations while maximizing financial performance. A strong understanding of regulatory requirements and budget management is essential.
