About the Role

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Health Economics & Market Access (HEMA) Manager for the Middle East region, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is integral to the Surgery team, which focuses on developing advanced surgical technologies and solutions to treat prevalent conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The role contributes to ensuring timely market access for innovative medical technologies.

Role Purpose and Context

Health Economics & Market Access (HEMA) is a critical component of the market access strategy, particularly in a landscape marked by evolving procurement processes and an increasing focus on value-based healthcare. This requires robust evidence from clinical studies and demonstrated economic value from technologies and solutions. The purpose of this role is to lead HEMA activities for the Surgery portfolio within MedTech, encompassing timely market access strategies and support for market development. This is achieved through the creation and implementation of strong health economic arguments and tools to facilitate funding and procedural adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute market access strategies for new technologies and existing portfolios.
  • Support the development of HEMA tools, translating complex messages into clear statements for the sales force.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including payers, healthcare professionals, and governmental bodies.
  • Collaborate with marketing, clinical, and sales teams to ensure alignment of market access activities with overall business objectives.
  • Provide input into the evidence generation strategy for new product development and identify local opportunities for health economic evidence generation.
  • Accountable for health economic input into novel local commercial initiatives requiring value substantiation, including value-based procurement and agreements.
  • Support the adaptation and local approval of regionally developed HEMA tools, ensuring messages are easily articulated by the sales force.
  • Partner with sales and marketing to deliver specialist health economic and reimbursement tools to customers, including field engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in health economics, health policy, public health, economics, healthcare management, epidemiology, outcomes research, or another relevant discipline.
  • Over 3 years of experience in the medical devices, healthcare, or pharmaceutical industry, an HTA or payer organization, healthcare consultancy, academic institution, or research organization. MedTech experience in relevant locations is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the principles of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and health economics.
  • Good understanding of processes within healthcare systems and payer bodies.

  • Strong track record of successful engagement with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and partner effectively with commercial teams in a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Strong project management orientation with the ability to prioritize and manage complex projects to completion.
  • Ability to synthesize clinical and health economic evidence into messages easily understood by non-clinical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional matrix to successfully deliver objectives on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment.

  • Appetite to build on knowledge and experience of market access and health economics.

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous experience developing business cases, value briefs, and value propositions to support market access strategies.
  • Experience delivering reimbursement and HTA information to internal sales and marketing teams.
  • Ability to critically assess and synthesize clinical, epidemiological, real-world, and health-economic evidence.
