The King Salman International Airport Project
Bechtel has a long history in airport projects globally, including significant roles in major GCC airports. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services for the development of the King Salman International Airport (KSIA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This state-of-the-art international airport is designed to accommodate up to 120 million travelers by 2030 and 185 million by 2050, with a cargo capacity of million tons by 2050. Bechtel's PMC services will cover three new terminals: Terminal 6, the Iconic Terminal, and a Private Aviation Terminal with hangars.
About the Role: Health & Safety Coordinator
Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator for the King Salman International Airport (KSIA) project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is designated for Saudi Nationals. The Health & Safety Coordinator will support the implementation of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) management programs, systems, and processes. The role involves providing technical oversight for ESH activities and overall support to effectively control risks to people, property, and the environment within a specific area of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing Bechtel's ES&H program and Management System, ensuring compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures for employee safety, health, and environmental protection.
- Maintain ES&H databases, including incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions.
- Perform statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and contributing factors for continuous improvement.
- Help identify and coordinate unique software systems and electronic innovations for ES&H personnel.
- Lead teams in conducting risk assessments, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring for ES&H issues.
- Prepare communications, reports, and documents for program execution and records retention.
- Assist with incident notifications, lead investigations, and prepare incident investigation reports.
- Recommend and implement process, procedure, and work activity improvements to minimize hazard potential.
- Participate in and support employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
- Support ES&H recognition programs.
- Research issues and provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
- Provide support to ES&H field and office personnel across all ES&H disciplines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) with 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
- Internationally recognized HSE qualifications such as Nebosh IGC, IOSH, OSHA, or similar are preferred.
- Previous work experience within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the Middle East.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Capability to work effectively in a diverse team and foster a collaborative work culture.
- Familiarity with conducting focused inspections, assessments, and audits as directed by project leadership.
- Leadership skills to coach, mentor, participate, and direct teams.
- Demonstrated personal value for ESH principles.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, targets, and objectives.
- Knowledge of ES&H management systems.
- Understanding of national and international safety laws/regulations, regulatory agency requirements, industry standards, and best management practices for minimizing safety/health risks during project execution.
- Knowledge of construction systems, methods, and work processes.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risks, and mitigation mechanisms.
- Skilled in oral and written communication in English.
