Localization Engineer

About the Role

Discovered MENA is partnering with a fast-growing Riyadh studio, backed by a major global gaming group, to hire a founding Localization Engineer. This full-time role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and focuses on building a dedicated Arabic-first localization capability from the ground up. The Localization Engineer will work directly with Unity and game teams to integrate Arabic as a core language within game titles.

Role Context and Impact

This position involves hands-on engineering to establish a robust localization pipeline. The role requires designing and implementing systems, writing production-grade code, and ensuring these systems perform under real production loads. The objective is to enhance the integration of Arabic language in games, moving beyond current practices where Arabic is often an afterthought in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing the localization engineering stack within Unity from scratch.
• Ensuring proper handling of Arabic text, including RTL and bidirectional support, shaping, ligatures, font fallback, text expansion, and layout mirroring.
• Establishing the localization pipeline, covering string extraction and management, integration into builds, automated checks, and pseudo-localization.
• Collaborating with QA to maintain quality at scale and identify issues early.
• Defining the tooling and standards for game teams to build against.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Strong Unity and C# engineering skills with experience in shipping games.
• Ability to write and demonstrate real, production-grade code.
• Experience in building or owning localization, text rendering, or tooling systems, with a preference for experience in RTL and Arabic contexts.
• Understanding of text pipelines, build integration, automation, and QA collaboration.
• Consideration for performance, memory, and scalability in engineering solutions.
• Readiness to relocate to Riyadh.

Additional Skills

Arabic language skills and prior MENA localization experience are considered beneficial but are not mandatory for this role.

Compensation and Support

This position offers a competitive base salary along with full relocation support to Riyadh and iqama sponsorship. The role provides an opportunity to establish systems and standards from the ground up within a small, fast-moving team, supported by a major global gaming group.
