About the Role

alfanar, a company with operations in construction, manufacturing, and design centers across the Middle East and beyond, is seeking a MANAGER, DATA LAKE PLATFORM. This full-time position is based in Riyadh and requires a minimum of 10 years of experience. The role is critical in ensuring the stability, security, scalability, and cost-efficiency of the data lake platform, facilitating reliable data access for analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives.

Platform Operations and Management

The primary focus of this role is to oversee the daily operations of the data lake platform, whether deployed in cloud or on-premises environments. This includes ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of data storage and processing services. The manager will be responsible for monitoring platform health, proactively identifying and resolving issues, and managing the utilization of compute, storage, and pipeline resources.

Performance, Cost Optimization, and Governance

This position involves continuous monitoring of system performance, usage trends, and capacity requirements to optimize infrastructure costs for both storage and compute resources. Identifying and rectifying performance bottlenecks, ensuring platform scalability for growing data volumes, and enforcing data access controls, security policies, and compliance requirements are key responsibilities. The role also includes implementing and maintaining data lifecycle management policies and supporting audit requirements.

Platform Development and Stakeholder Support

The manager will coordinate platform upgrades, patches, and feature enhancements, collaborating with engineering teams on infrastructure and architecture improvements. Integration of new tools and services into the data ecosystem will be managed, ensuring controlled and low-risk deployment of platform changes. Furthermore, the role requires supporting data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, troubleshooting platform and data access issues, and improving the usability and accessibility of data assets.

Leadership and Business Acumen

This role demands strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to recruit, develop, and manage high-performing teams, as well as address underperformance. The manager must take full responsibility for operations, anticipate problems, and make timely, proper decisions. Transforming corporate goals into actionable business plans, monitoring performance, and initiating corrective actions are essential. Developing the organizational structure, ensuring job descriptions are current, and promoting business process improvements and automation are also key aspects of this leadership position.
