EGI is expanding its international presence with the goal of becoming a global leader in power systems consultancy, contributing to the development of resilient and sustainable energy systems.

This Power System Planning Expert position is integral to supporting EGI's advanced power system planning initiatives. The role involves critical analysis and the development of methodologies to meet the evolving demands of the energy landscape, including the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis and define planning principles for power systems.
  • Define and validate power system models.
  • Enhance methodologies for planning power systems that integrate significant amounts of renewable energy sources (RES) and battery energy storage systems (BESS), considering demand evolution and optimizing transmission investments.
  • Master the links with technico-economic models to define critical operating points.
  • Perform steady-state analysis, including load flow, short circuit calculations, and hosting capacity assessments.
  • Conduct dynamic stability analysis, covering frequency, transient, and voltage stability.
  • Support the analysis and evaluation of grid reliability and security, including capacity calculation, balancing, and operational planning.
  • Write comprehensive reports presenting the results of analyses.
  • Support business development teams in identifying and pursuing opportunities by establishing trusted client relationships and developing proposals.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Power System Planning, encompassing master planning, pre-feasibility studies for new transmission investments, RES system integration, BESS optimization, and sizing state-of-the-art technological solutions.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is considered a strong asset.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as PowerFactory and PSSE.
  • Expertise in power system planning, including master planning and pre-feasibility of new transmission investments.
  • Experience with RES system integration and BESS optimization.
  • Ability to size state-of-the-art technological solutions.
  • Skills in analysis and definition of planning principles.
  • Capability in power system model definition and validation.
  • Proficiency in enhancing methodologies for power system planning under evolving energy landscapes.
  • Ability to master links with technico-economic models for defining critical operating points.
  • Competence in performing steady-state analysis (load flow, short circuit calculations, hosting capacity, etc.).
  • Proficiency in dynamic stability analysis (frequency, transient & voltage stability).
  • Ability to support the analysis and evaluation of grid reliability and security (*, capacity calculation, balancing, operational planning).
  • Strong report writing skills to present analysis results.
  • Capability to support business development teams in opportunity identification and pursuit.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Good oral presentation skills.

Work Environment and Mobility

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role requires 10% worldwide mobility, with a willingness to travel abroad for international assignments based on business development or project needs.
