About the Role

Pace | Architecture, Engineering + Planning is seeking a Senior Architect to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves assisting the Resident Engineer in managing, coordinating, and reviewing architectural technical documents from project initiation to closure. The Senior Architect will ensure adherence to deadlines, budgets, quality requirements, and contract obligations, while maintaining the design intent throughout the project lifecycle. This position requires leading a team of Junior Architects and Inspectors in supervising construction activities and developing comprehensive architectural solutions for on-site technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Approve Minutes of Meetings prepared by the Contract Administrator.
  • Assist in resolving contractor issues, such as time extensions and change order requests, providing recommendations to the Resident Engineer.
  • Attend various meetings, including progress, coordination, and client meetings.
  • Conduct off-site inspections, including international inspections for material review, mock-ups, and testing.
  • Supervise construction activities in adherence to the PACE Supervision Manual, ensuring compliance by site architects.
  • Contribute to managing on-site health and safety, reporting violations to the Resident Engineer or Safety Inspector.
  • Coordinate project contract documents with other site architects and engineers before construction.
  • Ensure proper storage and protection of materials delivered to site according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Communicate non-compliance with the Construction Control Schedule (CCS) to the Resident Engineer promptly.
  • Ensure timely submission of contractor documents to local ministries.
  • Maintain on-site quality control through material testing, verification, adequate storage, and review of contractor undertakings and warranties.
  • Inspect procured construction materials for compliance with ministerial requirements and specifications.
  • Lead in resolving design and technical coordination issues with various disciplines including finishes, structure, electro-mechanical, and landscape.
  • Lead the snagging procedure post-substantial completion, preparing snag lists for rectification and re-inspection.
  • Make recommendations to the Resident Engineer regarding subcontractor selection and approval in coordination with client representatives.
  • Notify the Resident Engineer of discrepancies against contract documents for corrective action.
  • Participate in preparing progress reports and verifying costs for monthly payment certificates.
  • Review and assess contractor and subcontractor pre-qualifications, inspecting showrooms, workshops, or factories as required.
  • Review all project contract documents, including drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Review as-built drawings from contractors prior to submission for approval and final record.
  • Review construction materials, technical data, and samples for compliance with ministerial requirements and specifications.
  • Review items within the contractor’s construction schedule in coordination with the Planning Engineer before approval.
  • Review mock-ups and progress work against contract documents, providing commentaries and recommendations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in a similar role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • Certifications: Advanced BIM Revit certification.
  • Memberships: Required membership in a local Engineer's society (*, Saudi Society of Mechanical Engineers in KSA).
  • Knowledge: National and local ministerial regulations, standards, and performance criteria.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of supervision manuals, CADD practices, major CAD applications, contract documents, architectural and supervision agreements, and principles of contract administration.
