About the Role

Mace, a consultancy and construction company, is seeking a Senior Design Manager – Highways to join its delivery partner team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role is integral to a significant and ambitious program in the Kingdom, which includes major mixed-use developments, sports facilities, entertainment, arts, and associated infrastructure. The Senior Design Manager will lead the coordination and assurance of highway design packages, ensuring technical integrity, integration, and alignment with program, cost, and construction requirements. The position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors to oversee the design process from concept through to construction, aiming for the successful delivery of high-quality infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate highway and road infrastructure design packages throughout their lifecycle.
• Serve as a primary interface between design consultants, delivery teams, and stakeholders to ensure design outputs are aligned.
• Review and manage design deliverables, verifying compliance with specifications, standards, and project requirements.
• Oversee the resolution of design issues, clashes, and interface challenges across civil, structural, and utilities disciplines.
• Ensure designs are constructible, cost-effective, and meet program timelines.
• Support value engineering initiatives and the optimization of highway design solutions.
• Manage design changes through robust control processes and impact assessments.
• Coordinate with site teams for a smooth transition from design to construction and provide technical query support during the delivery phase.
• Participate in design reviews, workshops, and technical assurance processes.
• Ensure designs comply with local authority and regulatory requirements.
• Provide regular reporting on design progress, risks, and performance to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer in highways or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in road, highway, and transportation design for large-scale developments.
• Experience working within a Project Management Consultancy (PMC), delivery partner, or consultant environment.
• Must meet visa criteria for Saudi Arabia and possess relevant work experience on high-value projects/programs for a PMC business, as required for immigration and client approval.
• Over 10 years of experience is required.
