About the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its supervision team in Riyadh. This full-time position is focused on large-scale infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, highways, and tunnel systems. The role involves significant construction supervision, design review, and quality assurance, requiring close collaboration with contractors and stakeholders to ensure technical compliance and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect mechanical works, such as tunnel ventilation, firefighting systems, drainage pumps, and lighting systems, on infrastructure projects.
  • Review and provide comments on design submissions, shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements for mechanical systems.
  • Ensure all mechanical installations adhere to project specifications, standards, and applicable codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and SMACNA.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, including civil, electrical, and structural teams, to ensure on-site interface alignment.
  • Monitor contractor progress and workmanship, identify deviations, and lead the resolution of mechanical-related issues.
  • Attend progress and technical meetings, providing regular reports to the client and project team.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations for all mechanical aspects.
  • Lead inspections and testing of mechanical systems, including tunnel ventilation fans, fire pumps, HVAC systems, and pressure tests.
  • Contribute to change requests, claims, and technical variations related to the mechanical scope.
  • Assist in the preparation of handover documents and commissioning plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, with at least 5 years in the GCC region on infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • Mandatory previous experience working with a construction supervision consultant.
  • Proven experience in mechanical works related to tunnels, bridges, highways, and road infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of MEP installations within tunnel and road projects.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as NFPA, ASHRAE, EN, BS, and ISO.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in software tools including AutoCAD, MS Office, and project documentation systems.

Project Context

This role is integral to the successful execution of major infrastructure developments in Riyadh. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be part of a dedicated supervision team, ensuring that complex mechanical systems are installed and function according to stringent project requirements and international standards. The work involves direct oversight on-site and close coordination with all project stakeholders.

Work Environment

The position is based in Riyadh and is a full-time engagement. The role requires a hands-on approach to site supervision and a commitment to upholding high standards of quality and safety throughout the project lifecycle.
