About the Role: Senior Planner

Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Senior Planner to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves collaborating with project teams to prepare, establish, and maintain schedule data for proposals and contracts. The Senior Planner will be responsible for schedule development, monitoring, reporting, and analysis, and will contribute to the formulation of schedule recovery plans. This position is crucial for optimizing scheduling details of critical activities to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Project Context: Expo 2030 Riyadh

This role directly supports the Expo 2030 Riyadh project, a significant global platform for collaboration under the theme “Foresight for Tomorrow,” promoting sustainable development and innovation. The event, scheduled from October 2030 to March 2031, is expected to attract over 40 million visits. Bechtel is managing the infrastructure program for this landmark project, which includes early works, utilities, and public spaces, with a strategic plan to transition the site into a mixed-use legacy development after the event concludes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of schedule data for proposals or contracts.
  • Establish and maintain schedules for specific discipline areas or specialties.
  • Perform schedule development duties, including establishing the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), determining activity durations, establishing workflow logic ties, and developing job expenditures.
  • Monitor schedules, identify critical activities, and update functions for specific applications, disciplines, or specialties.
  • Assist with the maintenance of critical path schedule reports and schedule performance metrics.
  • Conduct schedule analysis and studies of problem areas to determine the criticality of activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of schedule recovery plans.
  • Review contractors’ baseline schedules against contractual requirements, milestones, WBS, schedule logic, critical path, interfaces, resources, and deliverables.
  • Prepare consolidated schedule review comments for correction and approval.
  • Review contractors’ regular schedule updates, including progress, forecast dates, critical path changes, delays, recovery actions, and schedule performance.
  • Provide timely feedback and recommendations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
  • Approximately 12 years of relevant planning and scheduling experience on major infrastructure, utilities, industrial, or capital projects, with substantial involvement in pre-commissioning, commissioning, completions, and handover.
  • Experience working in a PMO, PMC, EPCM, or major-project delivery environment, preferably in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the wider Middle East.
  • Strong preference for experience integrating multi-contractor schedules and coordinating system-based completion across complex interfaces.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated skill in planning and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control, and analysis.
  • Proven ability to establish criteria for project planning and scheduling activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to present planning and scheduling information to management and clients.
  • Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
  • Knowledgeable about current industry and technical developments.
