About the Role

Applus+ Asia Middle East and Africa is seeking a Surveyor Monitoring to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is responsible for conducting field survey and monitoring activities to accurately measure and record movement, settlement, deformation, and structural behavior of project assets and adjacent infrastructure. The role involves operating specialized survey instruments, collecting precise monitoring data, maintaining survey control points, and supporting the monitoring team to ensure the safety and integrity of structures throughout their construction and operational phases.

Core Responsibilities

The Surveyor Monitoring will perform a range of critical duties, including:

  • Performing daily monitoring surveys at designated locations in accordance with project requirements.
  • Measuring settlement, displacement, movement, and deformation of structures and infrastructure.
  • Conducting precise leveling surveys and monitoring observations.
  • Installing, inspecting, and maintaining monitoring targets, benchmarks, prisms, and reference points.
  • Verifying the condition and stability of survey control networks.
  • Supporting Survey Engineers in establishing and maintaining control networks.
  • Assisting in automated monitoring system inspections and checks.
  • Participating in emergency monitoring activities when movement thresholds are exceeded.
  • Reporting any unusual movement, damaged targets, or equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Complying with project survey procedures and QA/QC requirements, and following all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinating daily activities with survey engineers and site construction teams, and communicating field observations promptly to supervisors.

Technical Operations and Data Management

A key aspect of this role involves proficient operation of survey equipment and meticulous data handling:

  • Operating and maintaining survey and monitoring equipment, including Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels, GNSS/GPS Receivers, Precise Levels, Monitoring Prisms, Crack Gauges, Tiltmeters, and Inclinometers.
  • Ensuring proper care, storage, and calibration status of all survey equipment.
  • Collecting and recording monitoring observations accurately and completely.
  • Uploading and organizing survey data according to project procedures.
  • Verifying field measurements, reporting any discrepancies, and maintaining monitoring logs and survey records.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following educational and experience requirements:

  • A Diploma or Technical Certificate in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in surveying and monitoring works.
  • Experience in metro, railway, tunneling, infrastructure, or large construction projects is preferred.
  • Experience with settlement and deformation monitoring programs is highly desirable.

Essential Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate will possess a strong combination of technical skills and professional competencies:

  • Ability to operate Total Stations, Digital Levels, and GNSS equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction surveying and monitoring principles.
  • Experience in Precise Levelling, Settlement Monitoring, Deformation Monitoring, Tunnel Monitoring, and Control Point Maintenance.
  • Familiarity with Leica and Trimble survey equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of survey software and data processing tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication skills, teamwork, and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in challenging site conditions.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.

Desirable Project Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following specific project types and monitoring systems:

  • Riyadh Metro, railway, or tunneling projects.
  • Automated monitoring systems (*, Leica GeoMoS or Trimble 4D).
  • Deep excavation and station monitoring.
  • Building and utility settlement monitoring.
  • TBM and tunnel convergence monitoring.
  • Structural monitoring of bridges, viaducts, and retaining walls.
