About the Role

WSP is seeking an experienced Technical Director - Electrical to join the Building Services team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing senior technical leadership for an ongoing project, focusing on electrical building services within a multidisciplinary MEP design and delivery environment. The role requires a client-facing professional with over 10 years of experience.

Role Purpose and Context

The Technical Director will provide technical leadership on electrical building services, ensuring project delivery aligns with requirements, codes, authority standards, and WSP quality procedures. This involves close coordination with MEP and multidisciplinary teams, maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships, and supporting high-quality project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical authority for electrical Building Services, guiding complex design and delivery matters.
• Lead electrical design reviews, challenge assumptions, and resolve difficult technical and multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Oversee electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, earthing, lightning protection, and interfaces with ELV and life-safety systems.
• Ensure designs are coordinated, buildable, efficient, and aligned with client briefs, applicable codes, authority requirements, sustainability objectives, and WSP quality procedures.
• Promote practical, innovative, and digitally enabled solutions to improve quality, coordination, and project outcomes.
• Provide senior technical leadership throughout project delivery, supporting mobilisation, design development, coordination, and close-out.
• Collaborate with clients, project management teams, architects, engineers, specialist consultants, and other project stakeholders.
• Support the resolution of technical issues and provide clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Monitor technical risks, programme interfaces, design dependencies, and quality, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Represent WSP as a trusted senior technical adviser and maintain professional relationships with clients and project partners.
• Guide and mentor electrical engineers and foster collaboration within the Building Services team.
• Coordinate with WSP specialists across Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and globally for specialist input.
• Apply WSP project management, quality assurance, health and safety, ethics, and governance requirements consistently.
• Support effective scope, change, risk, and commercial awareness within the project team.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A relevant master’s degree is advantageous.
• Professional Registration: Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional registration is strongly preferred.
• Experience: 25+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Building Services, with substantial experience in leading multidisciplinary engineering or design consultancies.
• Regional Expertise: Extensive Middle East experience, with a strong track record of delivering major, complex, and high-profile developments. Significant Saudi Arabia experience, ideally supporting mega and giga projects, with a strong understanding of the KSA market, local codes, authority requirements, and delivery environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable technical expertise in Electrical Building Services, comprehensive knowledge of integrated MEP design, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery.
• Leadership: Proven track record of leading electrical and multidisciplinary teams on large-scale and technically complex projects.
• Client and Stakeholder Management: Strong client-facing and relationship management experience, with a proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with key clients, developers, project partners, and senior stakeholders.
• Communication: Excellent communication, presentation, leadership, and interpersonal skills, combined with a collaborative and commercially aware approach.

This role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is a full-time position within WSP's Building Services team. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic environment, collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders across various projects.
