About the Tanks Supervisor Role
Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Tanks Supervisor for its Ar Rjum Project located in Taif, Saudi Arabia. This full-time, office/project role requires over 10 years of relevant experience. The Ar Rjum Project is a greenfield gold operation involving open pit mining, a processing plant, and supporting infrastructure within the Central Arabian Gold Region.
Project and Role Context
The Ar Rjum Project is situated approximately 200 km northeast of Taif towards Riyadh. The Tanks Supervisor will oversee and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities. This role involves coordinating and instructing subcontractor management staff to ensure operations align with overall project schedules and that work methods are executed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and organize subcontractor activities, including planning, safety, quality, and technical execution within the assigned area.
- Supervise and lead tank construction activities, including site-erected carbon steel tanks, API storage tanks, Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) tanks, and thickener tanks.
- Ensure all tank construction works comply with approved engineering drawings, vendor requirements, project specifications, API standards, and applicable codes.
- Review and interpret engineering, vendor, and technical documentation, resolving field-related technical and constructability issues.
- Coordinate tank erection activities, including plate fit-up, assembly, structural attachments, internal installations, and associated mechanical works.
- Oversee welding activities, ensuring compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project quality requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor Non-Destructive Examination (NDE/NDT) activities.
- Manage hydrostatic testing, leak testing, and final acceptance activities for tanks and thickeners.
- Coordinate heavy lifting, rigging, and erection activities associated with tank construction.
- Drive tank construction utilizing Work Packaging principles, planning work by systems and test boundaries.
- Coordinate with Construction Field Engineers, Quality, Safety, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls teams.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor short-term construction plans, including 3-week look-ahead schedules and manpower forecasts.
- Ensure implementation of project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) requirements and company core construction processes.
- Oversee the planning and utilization of construction tools and equipment.
- Conduct regular field inspections to monitor work progress, safety compliance, and overall construction performance.
- Support project reporting requirements by maintaining accurate records of construction progress and field issues.
Qualifications and Experience
This role requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience, or 12-14 years of relevant work experience. Candidates must have a proven ability to lead and supervise tank construction activities and manage subcontractors and direct-hire workforces.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in managing and coordinating subcontractors, direct-hire workforce, foremen, and craft professionals.
- Ability to review and interpret engineering, vendor, and technical documentation.
- Experience coordinating heavy lifting, rigging, and erection activities.
- Familiarity with Work Packaging principles and planning work by systems.
- Strong understanding of project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) requirements.
- Ability to perform extensive field inspections in active construction environments.
- Capability for physical demands including walking long distances, climbing, working at heights, and accessing confined spaces.
- Ability to work in hot and humid climatic conditions.
- Must be capable of using all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
The role is based in Taif, Saudi Arabia, within the Ar Rjum Project site. This is a full-time, office/project position. The work environment requires the ability to perform extensive field inspections and work in challenging conditions typical of construction projects in the Middle East.
