About the Role
Air Products, a global leader in industrial gases, is seeking a motivated HYCO Operator for its Air Products Qudra (APQ) facility in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is essential to the daily operations of critical APQ facilities, including Hydrogen Steam Methane Reformers, CO2 Removal Units, CO2 Compression, Auxiliary PSA, Membrane Units, and associated utilities and pipeline networks. The HYCO Operator will contribute to the safe, efficient, and reliable production of industrial gases to meet customer demands.
Reporting to the HYCO Lead/Shift Supervisor, the HYCO Operator is responsible for the operational integrity of the HYCO facility. This role offers a career progression path, with opportunities for advancement to Lead and Supervisor positions for individuals demonstrating experience and leadership skills, following successful completion of the Operator Progression Course.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and CO2 recovery units, including ancillary equipment like water treatment units, in accordance with Work Instruction Procedures.
- Manage pipeline network operations to ensure the safe and efficient supply of hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customers, and oversee oxygen and nitrogen pipeline products.
- Provide operational support and guidance during plant commissioning activities, ensuring accurate document control and adherence to quality assurance.
- Offer operational guidance to enhance the safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and control systems.
- Manage plant production based on directives from Plant Management and Plant Production Engineering to meet safety, reliability, and profitability targets.
- Report shift production progress and plant status to the Shift Supervisor, proposing operational solutions for any identified shortfalls.
- Ensure the safety of all operations personnel by implementing the APQ Basic Safety Practice program, including Safety Work Permits, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Confined Space procedures.
- Facilitate, organize, and audit safety procedures to embed Air Products' safety culture within APQ.
- Ensure strict compliance with process safety management, Management of Change (MOC) procedures, and Operating Procedures and Health Requirements (OPHR).
- Operate the facility in full compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the commissioning activities of the facility.
- Uphold Air Products and APQ standards, along with global best practices for Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S), productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service.
- Adhere to Site Work Instruction Manuals for HYCO, CO2, and ancillary equipment units, as well as other operating and maintenance procedures and checklists, to ensure customer satisfaction regarding safety, reliability, product quality, and supply flexibility, while complying with contractual obligations.
- Follow established shift turnover protocols to ensure a safe and efficient handover of operations.
- Foster working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel to monitor and evaluate plant systems and equipment.
- Support maintenance and engineering teams by executing scheduled preventive maintenance activities and coordinating corrective maintenance to optimize plant shut-downs and avoid business interruptions.
- Provide operational support and participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify and implement corrective actions.
- Drive operational excellence and customer satisfaction through initiatives focused on operations productivity, reliability, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Manage customer communications and relationships at the 'board' level, ensuring customer demand rates are met while maximizing facility efficiency and profitability.
- Communicate plant activities effectively with other shifts to maintain continuity for safe and reliable operations.
- Execute other assigned duties from reporting managers in a timely and efficient manner.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations is preferred. An Associate Technical Degree (2-year certificate) will be considered based on demonstrated years of experience and competence.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in process plant operations is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Hydrogen/Steam Methane Reformer (SMR)/acid gas removal units production plant operations is a significant advantage.
- Operators are expected to achieve 'Level 1 / Board Level' status within 2 to 4 years, with evaluations during the training period determining placement at the level of competence. All operations team members are considered field and board operators once Level 1 is achieved.
- Proficiency in English speaking and writing is essential.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating and managing Safety Work Permits and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Experience with Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities.
- Skilled in the operation of Steam Methane Reformer (HYCO), CO2 Removal Units, CO2 Compression, Auxiliary PSA, and Membrane Units.
- Expertise in Pipeline Network Operation and Water Treatment Units Operation.
- Capability to provide Commissioning Support, Document Control, and Quality Assurance.
- Strong understanding of Process Safety, Management of Change (MOC), and Operating Procedures and Health Requirements (OPHR).
- Knowledge of Environmental and Regulatory Compliance and Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) standards.
- Abilities in Productivity Management, Reliability Management, Quality Management, and Customer Service.
- Proficiency in Shift Turnover Protocols and the Plant Process Advisory Model.
- Skilled in Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Effective Customer Communications and relationship management.
- Demonstrated Leadership Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Team Building, and commitment to Diversity.
