About the Role

Jones Engineering is seeking an intermediate-level Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team in Dammam, Eastern Region. This is a full-time position, and the salary is not disclosed. The role is particularly suited for candidates with experience in Data Centre / Mission Critical Projects.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for a range of duties focused on the successful execution of mechanical systems within construction projects. This includes:

  • Reviewing and coordinating mechanical designs, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and providing technical input for shop drawings.
  • Managing submittals, procurement support, and validating material take-offs.
  • Overseeing on-site mechanical installation works, providing technical direction, and ensuring adherence to design intent and project specifications.
  • Supporting planning, quality assurance, and safety compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaising with commissioning teams, supporting project handover activities, and assisting with the creation of accurate As-Built drawings.

Design Review and Coordination

  • Conducting thorough reviews of IFC MEP design packages to understand the mechanical scope of work.
  • Ensuring design drawings and specifications align with local building regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Providing technical input to the BIM team for the preparation of coordinated shop drawings for all mechanical systems.
  • Performing detailed technical reviews of shop drawings before formal submission to the consultant.
  • Raising and following up on Requests for Information (RFIs) for design clarifications.
  • Liaising with the MEP Manager and consultant to verify designs and coordinate changes based on site conditions and MEP interfaces.

Submittals, Procurement, and Site Engineering

  • Preparing and reviewing material and technical submittals, coordinating approvals, and managing consultant comments and re-submissions.
  • Requesting and validating Material Take-Offs (MTOs) using Revit, performing cross-checks.
  • Preparing Material Requisitions (MRs) and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for procurement.
  • Coordinating with QA/QC and storekeepers to ensure only approved materials are delivered to site.
  • Monitoring on-site mechanical installation works against approved shop drawings and the construction program.
  • Issuing latest approved shop drawings to site teams and retrieving superseded versions.
  • Escalating engineering or installation issues impacting schedule or quality to the MEP Manager.
  • Coordinating builders’ work requirements with BIM and Construction teams.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in construction projects. Experience in Data Centre or mission-critical projects is highly advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit (for coordination and MTO review).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Middle East codes and standards is an advantage.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
