Senior Civil Structural Engineer

About the Role

H&P is seeking a Senior Civil Structural Engineer to join the FlexRig Engineering Eastern Hemisphere team in Dammam, Eastern Region. This full-time role involves working closely with regional and operational managers to address H&P’s engineering requirements across Middle East countries of operation. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers, drafting personnel, and field inspectors, and interact with various H&P groups including Marketing, Bids & Contracts, and Maintenance and Overhaul teams.

Role Responsibilities and Expectations

The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will manage drilling rig-specific design projects, large-scale project management, and provide critical event advisory. This position also includes addressing CAT III & IV inspection-related issues and development. As a senior engineer, the candidate is expected to mentor within the group, operate autonomously with minimal guidance, and provide assistance and advice across other H&P engineering groups as needed. This role requires a high standard of work output and deliverables.

Key Activities

• Coordinate construction projects with local fabricators and the H&P Houston assembly facility.
• Design new structures and analyze current builds for modification projects.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with H&P’s primary fabrication facilities.
• Create and distribute necessary “Certificate of Compliance” documents for various H&P designs.
• Work with International Marketing groups in preparing proposals, budget estimates, and schedules.
• Formalize technical reports from design analysis.
• Review and check coworker design packages.
• Author standardized technical letters specific to rig functions and equipment design for customer feedback.
• Provide technical support for operations on structural repairs, in-field upgrades, and CAT III & IV inspections.
• Mentor junior engineers and be available to advise cross-functionally throughout the company.
• Conduct in-field audits and reviews of existing equipment.
• Travel to the field and rigs to support ongoing upgrades and inspections, including occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and manage high-level projects with minimal guidance.
• Experience in drilling rig specific design projects and large-scale project management.
• Proficiency in addressing CAT III & IV inspection-related issues.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Dammam, Eastern Region, with required travel to field locations and rigs, which may include overnight stays. The role involves collaboration with internal H&P teams and external fabricators.
