The Role of Hatchery Technician

The Hatchery Technician supports the daily operations of our hatchery facility in Hail. This role is central to ensuring efficient processes from egg receiving through to chick handling, maintaining optimal incubation conditions, and upholding stringent standards for chick quality, biosecurity, and overall hatchery performance. Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience in hatchery operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and properly handle hatching eggs from breeder farms, checking for cleanliness, cracks, damage, and suitability for incubation.
  • Operate and monitor incubators, hatchers, setters, and other hatchery equipment, maintaining required temperature, humidity, ventilation, and turning conditions during incubation.
  • Perform egg transfer from setters to hatchers according to the hatchery schedule.
  • Monitor hatch development and identify any abnormal or delayed hatching patterns.
  • Handle newly hatched chicks carefully, maintaining proper chick quality, and assisting with vaccination, debeaking, sorting, counting, and dispatch activities as required.
  • Remove and properly dispose of unhatched eggs, shells, and general hatchery waste.
  • Maintain strict biosecurity and hygiene procedures throughout the hatchery, including cleaning and disinfecting hatchery rooms, equipment, trays, carts, and work areas.
  • Monitor hatchery equipment and immediately report any malfunction or abnormal operating conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records of egg quantities, fertility, hatchability, chick quality, mortality, vaccination, and dispatch.
  • Assist in investigating hatchability problems and identifying possible causes of poor hatch results.
  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), health and safety requirements, and poultry welfare standards.
  • Coordinate with breeder farm, production, quality, maintenance, and chick dispatch teams.
  • Support routine maintenance and calibration checks of hatchery equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in hatchery operations or a closely related field.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, which may include weekends and holidays as operational needs dictate.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to work effectively within a hatchery environment.
