The Role: Senior Medical Science Liaison, Rare Disease
AstraZeneca is seeking a Senior Medical Science Liaison for Rare Disease to join its Medical Affairs team in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia, covering Jeddah and Makkah. This full-time role is pivotal in channelling scientific capabilities to integrate new therapies for rare diseases into clinical practice, aiming to positively impact patients' lives. The Senior Medical Science Liaison is a professional with scientific, clinical, and therapeutic area expertise, responsible for providing medical and scientific support to healthcare professionals regarding the rare disease portfolio. This position reports directly to the Medical Manager Rare Disease.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and cultivate scientifically-based relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) and other healthcare professionals (HCPs), including physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and patient advocacy groups.
- Conduct educational programs on disease states and the appropriate use of medicines, consistent with Medical Affairs plans and objectives.
- Share emerging data with HCPs, discussing all aspects of the data in a scientific, objective, and balanced manner.
- Collaborate with HCPs on scientific activities such as clinical trials, Non-Interventional Studies, and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISSs).
- Provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders that enhance the value and appropriate use of AstraZeneca products and disease management.
- Act as a scientific expert for internal stakeholders, continuously acquiring and updating knowledge on the therapeutic area and relevant compounds.
- Serve as a medical resource for sales representatives, providing accurate medical information and therapeutic area understanding.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, ensuring information is objective, substantiated, and non-promotional.
- Gather customer insights regarding medicine use in the therapeutic landscape to inform medical and commercial strategies, adhering to internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, or Pharmacology.
- Minimum of years of experience in Medical Affairs.
- At least 4 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex scientific information and communicate effectively with healthcare professionals at a peer level.
- Experience in Rare Diseases and/or Metabolic Disorders is highly desirable.
Required Skills and Attributes
- Strong aptitude for learning and applying scientific concepts and knowledge.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate medical data and concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to work independently.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia, covering Jeddah and Makkah. The role operates within a dynamic environment focused on advancing healthcare and contributing to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
