About the Materials Engineer Role

The Arab Center for Engineering Studies (ACES) is seeking a Materials Engineer to join its team in Makkah, specifically in Jeddah and Makkah. This is a full-time position for an individual with 0-1 years of experience. ACES is a leading specialized engineering company in the Middle East, providing a comprehensive range of services including geotechnical investigation, materials technology and testing, quality control, and surveying.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Materials Engineer will be responsible for issuing testing reports and coordinating construction testing activities. This role involves ensuring all testing is performed according to required specifications and supporting the development and implementation of section policies and procedures. The engineer will also assist in the implementation of operations plans and transition/migration plans under the guidance of the Senior Engineer or Department Manager.

Key Technical Duties

  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding testing progress and reporting.
  • Prepare and initially check material testing reports before manager approval.
  • Follow up on laboratory tests for various construction materials including soil, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, steel, and tile.
  • Analyze test data and implement corrective actions for non-conforming products.
  • Set materials testing schedules and supervise technicians.
  • Conduct materials testing and special inspection reports, communicating results to relevant parties.
  • Ensure tests adhere to relevant standard methods and customer requirements.
  • Analyze test results for compliance with national and international standards.
  • Ensure site equipment and instruments are fit for use, managing calibration and maintenance programs.
  • Implement safety regulations and protection measures within the laboratory.
  • Receive and inspect material samples, review related orders for clarity, and ensure proper sample storage and record-keeping.
  • Prepare sample disposal schedules and maintain related records.
  • Prepare MS and special test reports in coordination with senior engineering staff.
  • Monitor daily data entry productivity.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in Civil Engineering.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Building Codes (ACI, UBC, SBC) and Specifications.
  • Familiarity with various testing methods (ASTM, BS, AASHTO, ANSI, CIRIA) and local/international standards.
  • Measurement, basic technical, and laboratory skills.
  • Fundamentals of Mathematics, Calculations, Statistics, and Data Analysis.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025/9001/45001/14001 requirements.
  • Knowledge of Materials Science, Materials Tests, and Materials Testing Procedures.
  • Proficiency in the operation and use of Materials Testing Equipment.
  • Awareness of Occupational Safety principles.

Work Environment and Reporting

This position is based in Makkah, with work locations in Jeddah and Makkah. The role is full-time. The Materials Engineer will report directly to the Materials Department Manager or Material Section Head.
