About the Safety Engineer Role
Hyundai Motor Company is seeking a Safety Engineer to join its team in the Makkah region, specifically covering operations in King Abdullah Economic City and Makkah. This is a full-time position focused on managing critical environmental and safety aspects during the construction phase of operations.
Role Overview
The Safety Engineer will be responsible for overseeing environmental and safety operations throughout the construction phase. This includes conducting environmental impact assessments, implementing waste and pollution control measures, coordinating ISO certification processes, and ensuring comprehensive compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage environmental compliance, including reviewing KSA and KAEC regulations for environmental impact assessments (EIA), coordinating with local consulting firms and government agencies (*, NCEC) for necessary permits, and ensuring compliance during equipment installation and commissioning.
- Oversee comprehensive waste management processes for non-hazardous, hazardous, and recyclable waste in automotive manufacturing, including selecting and managing third-party waste vendors, and conducting internal audits and training for proper waste handling procedures.
- Operate and monitor air pollution control systems, with a specific focus on the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) system in the paint shop, ensuring system performance, emission monitoring, and air quality compliance.
- Monitor water and wastewater quality (influent/effluent), manage chemical dosing, coordinate laboratory testing, and submit required reports to local water authorities.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors, conduct risk assessments (RA), maintain relevant documentation, provide safety guidelines to subcontractors, and ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards.
- Lead ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) certification and audit activities for the new factory, ensuring compliance with KAEC environmental and safety regulations, conducting internal audits, coordinating external audits, and providing ISO-related training across departments.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental impact assessments and safety management, particularly during the construction phase.
- Strong knowledge in the fields of safety, health, environment, and fire protection.

This position is based in the Makkah region, with responsibilities covering operations in King Abdullah Economic City and Makkah.
