About the Role

Capella Hotels and Resorts is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering for its location in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the entire building's engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to engineering team members, ensuring alignment with Capella brand values and vision.
  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Engineering department, ensuring compliance with service standards, departmental policies, and operating procedures.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating the Capella Culture and Service Philosophy.
  • Develop and implement an energy conservation program for the entire building.
  • Ensure all engineering projects are completed according to specifications and on time.
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions for necessity.
  • Develop and implement solutions for day-to-day operating problems within the engineering department, referring major issues to superiors.
  • Coordinate with concerned departments regarding repairs, maintenance, installation, or fabrication of engineering works.
  • Liaise with the outside electric utility company regarding electricity billing and other requirements.
  • Conduct special studies on operating areas to reduce costs, improve methods, or simplify work activities as assigned.
  • Ensure the proper operation of the physical plant and all engineering facilities in accordance with established policies, procedures, maintenance programs, and operation schedules.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs according to established policy and procedure.
  • Distribute assignments for repair and maintenance work with proper work deployment.
  • Resolve issues, damages, or breakdowns within working areas and the hotel to ensure defect-free facilities and service amenities. Document work orders, noting reasons for breakdowns/replacements, and ensure follow-up until completion.
  • Assist the Director of Engineering by reporting inoperative equipment, work progress, potential delays, job performance, team member interest, discipline, and progress discrepancies.
  • Ensure strict compliance with LQA and Forbes standards for stellar audit performance.
  • Ensure all team members understand the importance of LQA and Forbes standards for excellent audit and service performance.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of engineering areas throughout the hotel.
  • Foster a positive working environment, checking in regularly to ensure team member satisfaction and maintain strong working relationships. Provide praise and encouragement for good performance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with other departments to ensure effective communication for operational issues.
  • Empower team members to take ownership and responsibility, delegating responsibility and expecting accountability and feedback.
  • Monitor team member performance and provide effective feedback for improvements, recognition, and performance appraisals.
  • Mentor and guide individual team members' growth, identifying short-to-long-term goals to achieve high colleague engagement and welfare.
  • Review, monitor, and control monthly departmental expenses; support the Rooms Division budget and forecast reports.
  • Implement department project initiatives for continuous improvement of department operations and team member performance.
  • Drive high quality and consistency in standards to achieve hotel mission, vision, and goals.
  • Assist in updating Standard Operating Procedures in accordance with hotel standards and business levels.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, preferably specializing in Finance or Accounting Management.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within luxury hotels/resorts.

Required Skills

  • Competent computing skills, including Microsoft Office.
