Role Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Facility Engineer (Controls) to join its expanding Data Centers (DC) Cloud regions in Riyadh. This is a full-time, hands-on role focused on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. The Engineering Operations Engineer will operate and maintain AWS DCs’ world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure, following a process-oriented approach, and oversee facility operations while ensuring safety procedures are implemented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and maintain the highest safety standards, actively promoting a world-class safety culture.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure the remediation of safety risks and issues.
  • Lead safety initiatives and projects to cultivate a strong safety culture within the facility.
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events, ensuring resolution within established internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Drive innovation within facilities while actively working to reduce operational costs.

Facility Operations and Maintenance

  • Support a range of electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, emergency generator, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Conduct daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log-taking, monitoring parameters such as temperatures, voltages, and currents.
  • Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance activities.

Work Schedule and Physical Requirements

This role involves working rotational shifts consisting of 4 days of 12 hours (2 days followed by 2 nights), followed by 4 days off. This schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays. The engineer will also be part of an on-call rotation to respond to off-duty emergency calls.

The position requires performing the following tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Occasionally moving objects or materials, adhering to weight limits in accordance with regulations.
  • Working in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Operating in noisy environments.
  • Working at heights and from ladders.
