About the Role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Facility Engineer (Controls) to join our expanding operations in Riyadh. This full-time position is a hands-on role focused on the operation and maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within AWS data centers. You will contribute to ensuring the continuous availability of AWS services for our customers by maintaining the technical infrastructure.
Role Context
As part of the AWS Infrastructure Services team, you will be instrumental in the design, planning, delivery, and operation of global AWS infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while optimizing capacity and cost for our customers. You will work within an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and empowers ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote world-class safety standards and culture within the facility.
- Ensure the remediation of safety risks and issues in collaboration with other teams.
- Own and drive safety initiatives and projects.
- Support the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPS, switchgear, circuit breakers, automatic transfer switches, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC systems, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
- Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, emergency generator, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal service level agreements (SLAs).
- Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures.
- Contribute to innovation efforts aimed at reducing operational costs within the facilities.
Daily Operations and Schedule
This role operates on a rotational shift schedule consisting of 4 days of 12-hour shifts (two days followed by two nights), with 4 days off. This schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays. You will also be part of an on-call rotation to respond to emergency calls outside of regular duty hours. Daily tasks include taking operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log-taking, such as monitoring temperatures, voltages, and currents. You will also supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
The role requires the ability to perform the following tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Occasionally move objects or materials, adhering to weight regulations.
- Work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Work in noisy environments.
- Work at heights and from ladders.
