About the Fire Safety Manager Role
American Express Saudi Arabia, established in 1999, is a leading financial services company in the Kingdom. The company focuses on creating and innovating advanced payment solutions, including Credit Cards and Charge Cards, designed to support customers' lifestyles, travel, and business needs. As part of a globally integrated payments network, American Express Saudi Arabia provides products and insights that enable progress and business success. This full-time Fire Safety Manager position is based in Riyadh.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Fire Safety Manager is a technical role responsible for maintaining and overseeing fire safety and protection systems within the company's facilities. This involves collaborating with external engineering companies and maintenance contractors. A key responsibility is to ensure all safety and fire protection plans, along with building fire systems risk assessments prepared by an engineering office, are kept updated. The Manager will maintain a comprehensive safety record, documenting all periodical inspections and maintenance operations for safety and fire-fighting equipment. This record must be readily available to Civil Defence at all times.
The role requires proactive communication with Civil Defence regarding planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules for fire safety systems to facilitate inspector presence. The Fire Safety Manager is legally accountable for any defects, violations, or lack of readiness unless Civil Defence is formally notified in writing and all corrective measures are taken. The Manager must ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for safety, prevention, and fire protection systems and personnel, and obtain necessary engineering approvals for evacuation and safety plans.
Annual training of at least 15 hours in fire systems maintenance from an accredited organization is mandatory. The Manager will conduct inspections and maintenance on safety systems in conjunction with contracted maintenance teams, adhering to engineering risk assessments and consultant requirements. This includes assessing systems such as the fire pump room, fire alarm systems and detectors, ASS systems, FACPs, fire drawings for escape routes, extinguishers, PFE, clean gaseous fire suppression systems, and safety protocols for UPS and electrical rooms.
Key Duties and Reporting
The Fire Safety Manager will provide Civil Defence with semi-annual inspection and follow-up reports on prevention and protection systems. These reports will compare site conditions against engineering risk assessments, maintenance schedules, and regulatory requirements.
Daily and periodic inspections will be conducted according to the safety plan to verify the readiness of fire prevention and protection systems, including alarms, extinguishing systems, smoke control, fire extinguishers, hose reels, valves, nozzles, and fire hydrants. Ensuring water pipe pressures for firefighting systems and the availability of emergency exits around the clock is critical. Daily reports detailing observations and actions taken will be prepared.
Follow-up on maintenance work for both manual and automatic fire and alarm systems is required. During any construction, restoration, modification, or addition work, the Manager must ensure safety requirements are met at the work site and that workers adhere to safety and fire protection procedures.
Any violations, dangers, or malfunctions in alarm, fire suppression, or smoke control systems must be addressed. If issues cannot be resolved internally, they must be escalated urgently to senior management and Civil Defence.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must possess a fire safety prevention/protection qualification or an engineering qualification, such as NEBOSH, NFPA, or OSHA. Alternatively, qualification with SBC 201 and 801 is acceptable. Membership in the Saudi Council of Engineers is required.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in field work related to safety, prevention, and fire prevention is necessary. The role also requires the individual to be a qualified fire safety trainer. Specific mandatory requirements include NEBOSH/FFPA/OSHA in fire safety and prevention, or 3 years of field work combined with SBC 201 & 801 qualifications. Experience as a trainer and a NEBOSH management qualification in HSE and fire safety are also beneficial.
Work Environment and Type
This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role involves working collaboratively with external engineering companies and systems maintenance contractors to ensure the highest standards of fire safety are maintained within the American Express Saudi Arabia facilities.
