About the Medical Science Liaison Role

GSK plc is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join its medical team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time, field-based, non-promotional role focuses on the hepatology therapeutic area. The MSL will engage with healthcare professionals to support the safe and effective use of GSK medicines and advance evidence-based patient care for individuals with liver disease.

Role Context and Responsibilities

Operating as an individual contributor, this role involves medium to high complexity with a significant degree of autonomy and accountability. The MSL will serve as a scientific expert in hepatology, sharing balanced clinical and disease-area information with external experts and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Key responsibilities include leading scientific engagements, gathering medical insights to shape medical strategy, and supporting local evidence generation initiatives. The role requires effective collaboration across functions and geographies within a matrix organization.

  • Lead scientific engagements (1:1 and group) and medical education activities in compliance with GSK policies, SOPs, and Saudi regulations.
  • Gather and communicate high-quality medical insights to influence medical strategy and evidence generation in hepatology.
  • Support local evidence generation initiatives, publications, and clinical projects relevant to hepatology.
  • Ensure all activities comply with medical governance, pharmacovigilance, and local codes of practice.
  • Plan and deliver medical education programs in accordance with GSK standards and local regulations.
  • Identify evidence gaps and contribute to the development of local evidence generation plans.
  • Support appropriate access to GSK medicines in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Respond to unsolicited medical questions about GSK products from HCPs in a non-promotional and evidence-based manner.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to drive high-quality local publications and scientific communications.
  • Ensure all activities comply with GSK policies, SOPs, global and local codes of practice, and Saudi FDA regulations.
  • Fulfill safety reporting responsibilities and ensure relevant third parties understand and meet their obligations.

Qualifications and Experience

This role requires specific qualifications and experience to ensure effective scientific exchange and medical governance.

  • Must be a Saudi national.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science or an equivalent healthcare degree.
  • Valid license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Affairs is strongly preferred.
  • Mandatory therapeutic experience in hepatology, infectious diseases, specialty care, and/or gastroenterology with a strong track record.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering scientific presentations and speaking at scientific or educational events.
  • Proven ability to critically evaluate, interpret, present, and discuss scientific data with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage workload independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluent professional English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.

Scientific Communication and Governance

The MSL is expected to maintain a high level of scientific expertise and ensure all activities adhere to strict governance and compliance standards. This includes providing fair, balanced, scientific, and evidence-based information on GSK products and disease areas to all stakeholders. The role demands a thorough understanding of medical governance, pharmacovigilance, and local regulatory requirements, ensuring that all interactions and activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

This position requires effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners. The MSL will represent the Medical function in engagements with external experts, payers, government bodies, and formulary committees where appropriate. Proactive and reactive engagement is expected to support updates to therapeutic area guidelines and educate HCPs on these guidelines. The role also involves translating clinical guidelines into practical execution protocols for clinical practice in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

This is a full-time, field-based position located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role operates within a matrix organization, requiring effective cross-functional collaboration and the ability to work effectively across boundaries in a dynamic environment.
