Job Description

About the Role

Alfanar Engineering Services is seeking a Power Service Transformer Engineer to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is central to ensuring the operational reliability and performance of power transformers across substations and industrial facilities. The engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of power transformers, from installation and commissioning to maintenance and troubleshooting.

Role Purpose and Impact

The primary objective of this position is to manage the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of various power transformers, including Low Voltage (LV), Medium Voltage (MV), High Voltage (HV), and Extra High Voltage (EHV) units. The role ensures strict compliance with industry standards and aims to minimize operational downtime, contributing directly to the stability and efficiency of power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise transformer erection, oil filling, vacuum treatment, and drying processes, ensuring adherence to drawings, method statements, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, coordinating Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as required.
  • Perform and accurately interpret a range of diagnostic tests, including Insulation Resistance (IR), Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR), Winding Resistance, Capacitance & Tan Delta (Power Factor), Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) interpretation, and Partial Discharge (PD) testing.
  • Analyze test results thoroughly and prepare comprehensive technical reports with clear corrective recommendations.
  • Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities for power transformers.
  • Diagnose complex faults such as overheating, oil leakage, abnormal gases, bushing failures, and On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) issues.
  • Oversee and manage repair, refurbishment, or retrofitting works for transformers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 to 10+ years of direct experience in power transformer service and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience with High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) transformers, particularly those rated at 132kV, 220kV, and 400kV, is highly preferred.

Technical Expertise

Candidates must possess strong technical proficiency in transformer diagnostics and maintenance. This includes hands-on experience with advanced testing equipment and the ability to interpret complex data from tests such as SFRA, DGA, and PD to identify potential issues and recommend effective solutions. A deep understanding of transformer operational principles and fault mechanisms is essential for success in this role.

Work Environment and Application

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and operational excellence in substation and industrial facility environments. We invite qualified candidates to apply for this challenging role.
