About the Radiation Safety Officer Role

Vision Horizons Medical is seeking a qualified Radiation Safety Officer to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires a professional dedicated to developing and implementing comprehensive radiation safety measures, plans, and protection devices. The primary objective is to ensure strict compliance with government regulations while safeguarding the health and safety of both patients and personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement radiation safety measures, plans, and protection devices to ensure compliance with government regulations and the safety of patients and personnel.
  • Review proposals and protocols for projects and activities involving the use of ionizing radiation.
  • Collaborate with international regulatory agencies on radiation protection standards, guidelines, and projects.
  • Periodically update the Radiation Safety Manual.
  • Execute policies and procedures established by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC).
  • Report any radiation hazards or serious policy infractions to the RSC.
  • Maintain liaison with the Hospital Safety Committee.
  • Monitor equipment by assessing and correcting radiation level performance.
  • Maintain records of radiological and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure all radiation activities comply with applicable regulatory standards for protection against ionizing radiation and MNGHA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to basic health and safety principles in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide recommendations on optimizing radiation protection standards and requirements.
  • Advise on changes in radiation safety procedures that may impact safety.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the radioactive materials waste disposal program.
  • Ensure the safe management of by-products.
  • Conduct workplace testing for environmental hazards.
  • Perform periodic audits to assess program maintenance and adequacy.
  • Recommend corrective actions for deviations from approved radiation safety practices or policies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on the use and misuse of radionuclides, including investigation findings and recommendations.
  • Develop and review radiological work documents and interpret radiological data.
  • Undertake dose assessment of patients and monitor occupationally exposed personnel when necessary.
  • Develop, organize, and execute training programs and seminars to raise awareness and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain all required records and documentation.
  • Prepare and present reports and correspondence as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Essential: Radiation Safety Officer licensure or equivalent from the regulatory body within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • Essential: Registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • For Bachelor degree holders: A minimum of 2 years of postgraduate, position-related practical experience in a similar or comparable healthcare facility.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Hold a valid license from the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC).
  • Maintain a valid classification from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with area-specific tools, systems, and equipment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage work-stream leads and subordinates.
  • Effective collaboration with all involved internal and external disciplines (clinical and non-clinical), the healthcare team, and vendors.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills to reach objective conclusions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience interacting with the healthcare team.
  • Perpetual interaction with relevant stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Ability to operate in a safe manner to reduce the risk of injuries.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh. The role involves close collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders within a healthcare setting.
