About the Role

Deutsche Bahn is seeking a Senior Communications Engineer to join its team in Saudi Arabia. As a leading engineering and consulting company in the rail sector, DB Engineering & Consulting provides expertise from concept to operation, developing sophisticated infrastructure, mobility, and transport solutions. This full-time position requires a candidate with over 10 years of relevant experience.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Senior Communications Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the successful implementation and operation of communications systems for major rail projects. This involves leading technical reviews, overseeing system integration, and providing expert guidance during testing and commissioning phases. The engineer will be responsible for monitoring system performance, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards, and managing technical risks.

  • Lead the review and approval of communications system designs, technical submittals, and architecture documents, ensuring compliance with contract and employer requirements.
  • Oversee the integration of communications systems with signalling/ATC, OCC/TCC, SCADA, rolling stock, platform screen doors (PSDs), and station systems for seamless operational connectivity.
  • Provide technical leadership during testing and commissioning activities, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), subsystem testing, network validation, and operational readiness verification.
  • Monitor the performance, availability, and reliability of communications systems in line with RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) requirements and operational performance criteria.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements, aligning with standards such as ISO/IEC 27002, IEC 62443, and national cybersecurity standards.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, Non-Conformance Report (NCR) reviews, and quality assurance processes related to communications system installation, configuration, and performance.
  • Assess technical risks, system vulnerabilities, and interface challenges, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate with Project Management Consultancy (PMCM) teams, contractors, system suppliers, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) entities, and employer stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure full system readiness for operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a strong educational background and extensive practical experience in the field of communications engineering within large-scale rail or metro projects.

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience with telecommunications systems for rail or metro projects, including radio systems, fibre/data networks, Public Address/Passenger Information Systems (PA/PIS), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), and operational telecom systems.
  • Strong understanding of integration across communications, signalling, rolling stock, SCADA, traction power, OCC/TCC operations, and station systems.
  • Proven ability to review and validate telecom designs, system architectures, cybersecurity requirements, test procedures, NCRs, and commissioning deliverables.
  • Familiarity with RAMS principles, system availability requirements, and operational performance expectations for automated metro systems.
