About the Role

Amazon Saudi Arabia (ex-Souq) is seeking a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position involves partnering with site operations teams to implement company safety policies and ensure compliance with local and regional regulations. The role focuses on leveraging lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risks and maintain a safe working environment for associates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with Amazon WHS standards and policies.
  • Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and develop plans to address deficiencies.
  • Analyze safety metrics and review incident trends to identify areas of highest safety risk and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Ensure proper incident investigation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and processes, and implement solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries.
  • Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
  • Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accuracy and consistency in training, auditing, and scoring methods.
  • Lead and mentor Safety Associates during peak periods.
  • Seek input from safety teams, associates, and leaders on safety program improvement opportunities and communicate progress on suggestions.
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained on their responsibilities under each policy and audit the quality and effectiveness of safety training.
  • Manage PPE inventory, coordinate procurement, and ensure site PPE compliance.
  • Implement best practices at the site, including PIT (powered industrial truck) safety, yard safety systems, Work Permit System usage, and contractor management.
  • Ensure a basic safety training calendar for associates and conduct training sessions accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the facility team to ensure preventive maintenance of all fire protection and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure basic fire fighting and first aid training requirements are met.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or related qualifications.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and/or weekends.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 1-3 years of increasing responsibility in safety and/or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns, and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses.
  • Experience in emergency response and current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.

Work Environment and Reporting

The Workplace Health and Safety Officer will be part of the site WHS team and report to the Site WHS Manager. The role requires flexibility to work in shifts and a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and company policy. This position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
