About the Role

Amazon Saudi Arabia (ex-Souq) is seeking a WHS Officer to join its team in Jeddah. This full-time role involves partnering with the Site Operations team to implement company safety policies and ensure adherence to all applicable local and regional regulations. The WHS Officer will lead continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging lean principles and Kaizens, to mitigate conditional and ergonomic risks within processes, thereby fostering a safe and healthy work environment for all associates. The position requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS Standards and Policies.
• Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements and develop implementation plans to address identified deficiencies.
• Deliver projects to Operations on time and to quality standards.
• Analyze safety metrics and review weekly and monthly incident trends to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
• Ensure proper incident investigation and the closure of corrective and preventive actions.
• Perform frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment or processes and implement solutions to eliminate exposure and prevent injury.
• Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
• Lead and mentor safety associates within assigned facilities.
• Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
• Audit the quality, delivery (including trainer qualifications), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
• Manage the site's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory and coordinate with procurement teams to ensure PPE compliance.
• Collaborate with facility teams to ensure preventive maintenance of all fire protection and emergency equipment.
• Ensure basic fire fighting and first aid training requirements are met.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in English communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
• NEBOSH or IOSH certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in WHS or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, or service operations.
• Experience in identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, determining root causes, and creating/implementing escalation plans, or experience in developing process improvements through automation and analysis.
• Experience in emergency response.
• Experience utilizing lean process improvement, Six Sigma methodologies, or related performance metrics/process improvements to enhance efficiency in processes, forecasting, planning, optimization, or logistics.
• Experience working in fast-paced environments and managing workload effectively, even during periods of stress or heightened activity.

Work Environment and Reporting

This role is a full-time position based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is part of the WHS team, reporting directly to the Site WHS Manager. The WHS Officer must be flexible to work in shifts, including days and nights, and possess a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and company policy.
