About the Role

Amazon is seeking a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join its team in Jeddah. This full-time position involves partnering with site operations teams to implement company safety policies and ensure compliance with local and regional regulations. The role focuses on leveraging continuous improvement methodologies to reduce risks and maintain a safe working environment for associates.

Role Overview

The Workplace Health and Safety Officer will be instrumental in executing Amazon's safety policies within a delivery station. By applying lean principles and kaizen events, the officer will drive initiatives to minimize conditional and ergonomic risks. Success in this role requires building trust with operations teams, providing comprehensive risk assessments, and analyzing safety data to inspire change. The officer will also be responsible for training operations leaders on WHS policies and integrating safety standards across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS standards and policies.
  • Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and develop plans to address deficiencies.
  • Deliver projects to operations teams on time and to quality standards.
  • Analyze safety metrics and review incident trends to identify areas of highest safety risk and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Ensure proper incident investigation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and processes.
  • Implement solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries.
  • Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
  • Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accuracy and consistency in training, auditing, and scoring methods.
  • Lead and mentor Safety Associates during peak periods.
  • Engage with safety teams, associates, and leaders to identify opportunities for safety program improvement and communicate progress on suggestions.
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained on their WHS responsibilities and audit the quality and effectiveness of safety training.
  • Manage personal protective equipment (PPE) inventory and coordinate procurement.
  • Ensure site PPE compliance.
  • Implement best practices at the site.
  • Implement powered industrial truck (PIT) safety and yard safety systems.
  • Ensure the standard Work Permit System is utilized at the site.
  • Implement and ensure safe contractor management.
  • Ensure a basic safety training calendar for associates and conduct training as per the schedule.
  • Collaborate with the facility team to ensure preventive maintenance of all fire protection and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure basic fire fighting and first aid training requirements are met.

Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of local and regional regulations, as well as company policy. Excellent safety program knowledge, along with environmental and ergonomic expertise, is essential. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is required. This role is part of the site WHS team and reports to the site WHS manager. Flexibility to work in shifts is necessary.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah. The Workplace Health and Safety Officer will be an integral part of the site WHS team, working closely with operations leaders and associates to foster a safe and healthy work environment.
