About the Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking an experienced CSA Design Engineer to join their team for the Ar Rjum Project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is integral to a significant greenfield gold project, which includes open pit mining operations, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure. The CSA Design Engineer will be responsible for conducting field investigations, client interviews, and leading the design, development, modification, and evaluation of civil and structural components and processes. This role is crucial for meeting the unique and complex requirements of this large-scale mining project.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct independent scopes of work and technical specifications for Civil/Structural design and field investigations on large-sized projects or assignments in support of a global business unit.
• Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural components and processes, utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
• Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the assigned project.
• Design structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
• Determine the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure the correct material is used based on load or stress requirements.
• Originate and check complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, including steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
• Develop conceptual designs for Civil/Structural engineering projects or projects with specialized or unique requirements.
• Interview client personnel to determine their needs, develop scopes for cost estimates, and participate in proposal preparation and presentation.
• Prepare or oversee the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and support implementation and assist with performance reporting.
• Interpret new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.

Qualifications and Experience

This role requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) combined with 13-15 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with 17-19 years of relevant work experience will be considered.

The Planning Manager will collaborate with discipline teams, subcontractors, and project leadership to maintain schedule integrity, identify risks, and develop recovery plans, contributing to safe, predictable, and efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, maintenance, and analysis of project schedules across all disciplines.
• Supervise the estimation of schedule durations and validate discipline-specific inputs against key project milestones.
• Integrate resources, including quantities, job hours, manpower, and bulk commodities, into the project schedule and maintain installation curves.
• Manage resource loading, leveling, and staffing plans to align with project execution needs.
• Conduct critical path analyses, evaluate schedule variances, and report on schedule performance.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction teams, and subcontractors to gather schedule inputs.
• Identify potential schedule restraints, critical interfaces, and interdisciplinary impacts, recommending solutions.
• Conduct weekly look-ahead planning sessions and lead monthly schedule review meetings.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 15 years of project controls experience with a strong emphasis on planning and scheduling.
• Advanced understanding of EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management) work processes, from engineering through start-up.
• Proven experience in Smelter or Refinery projects is mandatory.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within diverse, multicultural environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Prior experience working in the Middle East region is preferred.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in Bechtel's discipline-specific software, including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office Applications.
• Ability to independently plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present schedule products with minimal supervision, utilizing professional judgment in technical planning, scheduling, engineering design, construction, and procurement practices.
• Working knowledge of data analytics software applications such as Power BI.
• Full proficiency in existing data sources and tools like Excel, with all outputs expected in Power BI.
• Experience in leading and managing a team of Project Control engineers.
