Manager T&C (Relay Testing)

About the Role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Manager - T&C (Relay Testing) to lead and manage protection relay testing and commissioning activities. This full-time role involves overseeing critical testing procedures for utility-scale solar PV plants, substations, switchyards, and grid interconnection facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage protection relay testing and commissioning for utility-scale solar PV plants, substations, switchyards, and grid interconnection facilities.
• Supervise the testing of various protection relays, including overcurrent, earth fault, differential, distance, transformer, busbar, and line protection schemes.
• Review protection coordination studies, relay setting calculations, protection schematics, single-line diagrams, and control wiring drawings.
• Perform and oversee secondary injection, primary injection, functional testing, trip circuit checks, and end-to-end protection testing.
• Ensure proper integration and testing of protection relays with SCADA, RTU, and substation automation systems.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs, utilities, and client representatives throughout the testing and commissioning phases.
• Manage testing schedules, manpower allocation, equipment availability, and site execution activities.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, utility requirements, project specifications, and approved testing procedures.
• Troubleshoot protection relay malfunctions, wiring issues, communication failures, and protection scheme abnormalities.
• Prepare and review relay test reports, commissioning records, punch lists, and handover documentation.
• Ensure calibration and proper use of relay testing equipment, such as OMICRON and Megger test kits.
• Implement site safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and quality control measures during testing activities.
• Provide technical guidance and training to relay testing engineers and technicians.
• Support grid synchronization, energization, performance testing, and final project handover.

Team and Collaboration

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs, utilities, and client representatives. This role involves providing technical guidance and training to a team of relay testing engineers and technicians, fostering a strong environment for technical development and operational excellence.

Technical Environment

This position operates within a technical environment focused on advanced protection relay systems. It requires familiarity with various relay types and schemes, as well as experience with SCADA, RTU, and substation automation systems. The role demands proficiency in using specialized testing equipment like OMICRON and Megger test kits, ensuring all activities adhere to IEC, IEEE, and utility standards.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

A core aspect of this role is ensuring strict compliance with all relevant industry standards, utility requirements, and project specifications. The Manager will be responsible for implementing robust site safety procedures, managing permit-to-work requirements, and maintaining high-quality control measures throughout all testing and commissioning activities. This includes meticulous preparation and review of all technical documentation and reports.
