About the Role
SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, is seeking a dedicated Process Engineer specializing in Ethylene Glycol. This full-time role is crucial in supporting plant operations by providing expertise in complex troubleshooting, ensuring unit performance assurance and optimization, and contributing to long-term improvements and study development. You will play a vital role in maintaining operational excellence and driving continuous improvement within our Ethylene Glycol production facilities in Al Jubail, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with Sharq policies and SHEMs / OMS procedures, contributing to the achievement of target SHE rates and adhering to quality procedures and Sharq ISO certified standards.
- Provide process 'know-how' support during plant upsets, perform complex troubleshooting, and assist the plant during startup and shutdown phases.
- Ensure plant process integrity by maintaining a well-defined operating envelope.
- Conduct comprehensive project feasibility studies and develop project packages, tracking the status of assigned studies on a weekly and monthly basis with other process engineers.
- Participate as a member of the Management of Change Committee (MOCC).
- Prepare study scopes to ensure they meet plant requirements, and prepare, review, and consolidate all approved study concepts.
- Assist the Process Manager with any additional assigned duties.
- Evaluate and select new catalysts based on techno-economic assessments, monitor catalyst performance, and support plants in troubleshooting catalyst-related issues.
- Initiate and apply technology adaptation opportunities and best practices to enhance operations.
- Monitor the quality of all utilities and provide operational advice in case of deviations, specifically monitoring the efficiency of steam boilers and water quality.
- Perform overall plant monthly performance monitoring and reporting, advising operations on areas for improvement.
- Maintain furnace design conversion and yield without negatively impacting the run-length of cracking operations.
- Ensure hydrogenation reactors' catalyst selectivity remains within design ranges without loss of desired products.
- Manage communication with licensors, Technology and Innovation (T&I) departments, other affiliates, and vendors.
- Conduct process modeling as required to support optimization and modification initiatives.
- Fulfill all required study portions as part of the role in the S&E committee, adhering to MEMS ** and MEMS ***
- Mentor and groom junior process engineers, monitor their progress, and act as a mentor/body engineer to develop their capabilities and validate their continuous progress.
- Handle all required process communications with licensors, SABIC Technology and Innovation (T&I), and vendors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant process engineering field.
- Experience in relevant plants such as Olefins (OLF) or Glycol production.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Process Simulation software.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build personal rapport and motivate effectively to coach internal staff and collaborate with external groups.
- Strong teamwork capabilities and experience in applying technology through collaborative efforts.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, procedures, and the legislative process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.
- Ability to maintain confidential and proprietary information.
