About the Role

National Medical Care is seeking a Senior Registrar in Cardiology to join its team in Makkah. This full-time position involves providing high-level patient care within a healthcare organization, adhering to established medical standards and ethics. The Senior Registrar will be responsible for delivering evidence-based medical treatment, ensuring patient well-being, and contributing to the overall quality of care at NMC Hospitals and Clinics. This role encompasses comprehensive patient management, from assessment to ongoing care and discharge, in collaboration with consultants and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide superior quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding to every patient.
  • Perform history taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of common diagnostic tests, documenting patient conditions according to JCIA standards when a registrar is unavailable or as advised by the Head of Department.
  • Admit patients from hospital facilities (ER, OPD) independently or as determined by the Head of Department in consultation with the Consultant.
  • Evaluate new admissions and coordinate a plan of investigation to establish a diagnosis and management course, with or without consultant assistance as determined by the Head of Department.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds for all inpatients in the department, independently or as part of a team.
  • Document patient management plans legibly and accurately, maintaining appropriate and timely medical records.
  • Seek the advice or assistance of the Consultant whenever a patient's condition requires further expertise.
  • Prepare discharge summaries, death reports, and special reports for related patients when the Registrar is unavailable or as advised by the Head of Department.
  • Present new admissions to the department during daily morning reports when on duty and the registrar is unavailable.
  • Actively participate in the department's on-call rota for patient care and admissions, responding to emergencies.
  • Participate in the delivery of medical care in outpatient services (*, OPD and ER) independently as determined by the Head of Department.
  • Assist Senior staff (Consultant) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the field of cardiology.
  • Supervise junior staff, including Registrars, Residents, GPs, Nurses, and other paramedical staff, in conducting their duties and responsibilities.
  • Actively participate in the department's educational and training activities.
  • Abide by department policies and procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform administrative, organizational, or other tasks related to Physiological Testing (Cardiology section) as assigned.
  • Educate patients and their families according to their needs, implementing the role in patient and family education processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the essential role in patient and family education.
  • Involve patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
  • Provide health promotion and health teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
  • Allocate necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
  • Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of the employee's knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registration as a Senior Registrar with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Cardiology after qualification.
  • A current license to practice medicine in the place of residence.
  • Education: Arab Board, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, MRCP, or equivalent qualification.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in providing advanced medical treatment and adhering to professional medical ethics.
  • Thorough understanding and application of JCIA standards and hospital medical by-laws.
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health laws in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other applicable regulations.
  • Expertise in history taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
  • Skilled in patient record documentation and patient management planning.
  • Competence in conducting ward rounds and preparing discharge summaries and death reports.
  • Ability to participate effectively in on-call rotas and respond to emergencies.
  • Experience in delivering care in outpatient services and assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Capability to supervise junior staff and contribute to educational and training activities.
  • Familiarity with department policies and procedures.
  • Experience or knowledge in Physiological Testing (Cardiology section).
  • Proficiency in patient and family education, health promotion, and health teaching.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to speak Arabic.
  • Professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Experience: 2-5 years.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Higher qualifications in Cardiology.
  • Desirable Experience: Additional experience in a sub-specialty and academic affiliation.

Work Environment and Reporting

This is a full-time position located in Makkah. The Senior Registrar will report to the Head, Department of Internal Medicine, and the Consultant In-charge, Cardiology. The role involves liaising with consultants of his/her specialty and other departments, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families. Supervision duties extend to Registrars, Residents, GPs, Nurses, and other assigned paramedical staff.

  • Review accounts receivable aging with the CBS West team to ensure timely accounting, maintenance, and resolution of A/R with customers.
  • Prepare customer/retailer P&Ls and conduct periodical market/customer visits for oversight of GTN execution.
