About the Role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services is responsible for the global infrastructure that powers AWS. We are seeking a Colocation Regional Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Colo Regional Engineering team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role is critical for driving the mechanical and electrical engineering services, construction, and implementation of enterprise data centers to meet global quality and performance standards. You will collaborate with Design Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Commissioning teams to lead data center fit-out projects and address evolving customer needs.

Role Context and Responsibilities

As an engineering representative for the Data Center Field Engineering Team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects. This includes supporting data center site selection, planning, and development, as well as evaluating mechanical and electrical systems to make informed decisions aligned with AWS guidelines. The position requires regular visits to customer or non-corporate Amazon sites, and you will work from an Amazon building, Data Center, or customer location as business needs dictate.

  • Collaborate with colocation vendors to review designs for new data centers, providing input, reviewing submittals, and integrating AWS products to meet expectations.
  • Serve as the resident engineer during new colocation construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and handover processes.
  • Troubleshoot site and equipment failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation.
  • Provide direct support for operational issues through training, procedure reviews, and event support, focusing on essential equipment.
  • Offer technical support for the design of existing data center upgrades aimed at increasing capacity, improving availability, and enhancing efficiency.
  • Support operating partners in leading, reviewing, and approving designs for existing colocation data center upgrades focused on availability and efficiency.
  • Interface with operating partners, design engineering, the server hardware team, and the environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability.
  • Manage concurrent projects, potentially across multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering site audits within leased or colocation data centers, producing reports with risk assessments and recommended mitigations.

Qualifications and Experience

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is necessary, with at least 6 years in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance. Additionally, a minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial or commercial engineering within mission-critical facilities, such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities, is required. Experience in carrying design concepts through development and deployment, and in reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents, is essential. Knowledge of building codes and regulations relevant to the region is also necessary.
