About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a Consultant in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive patient care for both inpatients and outpatients, adhering to evidence-based medicine, professional ethics, and hospital regulations. The role also requires providing leadership within the department to enhance performance and maintain a high-quality rehabilitation program.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding to all patients.
- Deliver patient care within the scope of professional competence and clinical privileges for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Practice according to clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Conduct regular ward rounds, individually or as part of a multidisciplinary team, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the specialty's scope.
- Assess and refer patients to appropriate medical facilities, and accept referrals within the field of specialty.
- Participate in the department's on-call rota for patient care and admissions.
- Respond to emergencies, providing advice and active participation as required within the specialty.
- Uphold patient rights regarding security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legible patient medical records.
- Lead organizational performance improvement initiatives, focusing on the measurement, assessment, and improvement of clinical and non-clinical processes as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.
- Supervise the duties of assigned junior staff, including Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, Rehabilitation Staff, Physiotherapy Staff, and other paramedical staff.
- Actively participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital educational activities, national and international meetings, conferences, symposia, literature review, case reporting, and clinical studies/research.
- Engage in training programs related to the specialty and the organization, including training junior medical staff and in-service training for nursing and technical staff.
- Continuously update medical knowledge and upgrade professional skills.
- Participate in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
- Abide by Department Policies and Procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
- Educate patients and their families according to their needs, involving them in the plan of care and respecting their goals and choices.
- Provide health promotion and health teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
- Allocate necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, ensuring appropriate documentation.
- Carry out any other assignments directed by Hospital Administration and/or the Department Head within the realm of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: American Board, Canadian Fellowship, MRCP, or equivalent is required. Higher qualifications in the specialty are desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience post-qualification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Additional experience in a sub-specialty is desirable.
- Licensure: Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty. Registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and/or a current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- Academic Affiliation: Desirable.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Communication in spoken Arabic is desirable.
- Professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Medical by-laws.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
Work Environment and Reporting
This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will report to the Head of Department and will liaise with Consultants of the same and other specialties, Rehabilitation Staff, the Physiotherapy Department, Nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
