About the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Market Director – Rail & Transit to lead and oversee all service delivery for the Rail Market within the Middle East. This full-time position, based in Riyadh, requires a candidate with over 10 years of experience to drive revenue and EBIT performance in alignment with yearly targets.

Market Leadership and Strategy

The Market Director will be directly responsible for the overall performance of the Rail Market in the Middle East, focusing on revenue and EBIT. This includes developing and implementing market strategies, aligning services with client needs through 'Client Value Proposition' workshops, and managing working at risk strategies. The role also involves identifying new ways of working to improve commercial performance and defining market-specific tools and techniques. Proactive engagement with clients to identify opportunities before bid releases and incorporating these into the CRM pipeline is essential. The Market Director will also advise the business on market risks and develop relevant mitigation plans, creating a quarterly market risk management plan.

Client Management and Business Development

Key responsibilities include leading Key Account Management (KAM) and client development activities with a primary focus on the Rail Market, aiming to build profitable and resilient client relationships. The Market Director will undertake the role of Project Director or Market Director during the bid process, managing the entire bid lifecycle, developing win themes, and ensuring successful project pricing. This involves managing bid budgets, liaising with the business to engage Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and providing weekly feedback on available opportunities and bid decisions. The role also encompasses developing a market-specific marketing and communications strategy and producing thought leadership articles and papers.

Operational Excellence and Project Delivery

Ensuring the utilization of best-in-class tools, techniques, and approaches across the market is a core function. This includes accountability for all market projects and clients to ensure delivery aligns with contractual commitments and managing team performance. The Market Director will lead the project review process and proactively manage commercial performance, including the implementation of successful project start-ups, encompassing Project Risk Management, Stakeholder Management, and Project Management plans. Oversight of technical excellence in project delivery and the development of a lessons learned log are also key aspects of this role.

Leadership and Team Development

This role involves establishing and developing behaviors for success within the market, encouraging positive behaviors and responsibilities. Collaboration with the Strategy & Transformation Team for organization design and operating model adjustments is required. The Market Director will lead by example, demonstrating accountability, inspiration, collaboration, inclusivity, and integrity. Identifying and driving development opportunities for market resources in line with organizational goals and individual career aspirations is crucial. Management of the market team budget and deployment, ensuring the team is appropriately sized to achieve targets, and identifying training needs for market-based training are also key leadership responsibilities. This includes defining and assisting in the successful delivery of Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) and career development for market resources.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess extensive Profit & Loss management capabilities and experience leading fee proposals to ensure they are competitive and profitable. A proven track record as a Regional Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Rail, with a strong client network across the GCC among owners and operators, is required. Excellent presentation skills are necessary for market-specific marketing and business development. Direct experience running a successful P&L and a background in Rail, preferably with client experience, are essential. A degree in a related discipline and/or a minimum of 15 years of experience is required.
