About the Mission Critical Principal Engineer – Electrical Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a highly experienced Mission Critical Principal Engineer – Electrical to join our team. This full-time position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience and focuses on leading the end-to-end electrical system design for data centers, ensuring solutions meet rigorous reliability, efficiency, and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate client requirements into robust electrical designs, encompassing electrical distribution (medium and low voltage), generator systems, UPS systems, switchgear, busducts, grounding schemes, power monitoring systems, and fire detection and alarm systems.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including calculations, system studies, single-line diagrams, layout drawings, specifications, block schematics, and compliance tables.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed design reviews, utilizing advanced analytical tools, BIM/Revit models, and coordinating with architectural, mechanical, and building technology disciplines.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, disseminate best practices in mission-critical electrical systems, and foster continuous improvement within the design team.
  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to enhance consulting capabilities and ensure adherence to global design standards.
  • Develop and standardize scalable, repeatable data center solutions to promote consistency and efficiency across the UAE and KSA.
  • Conduct site assessments, capacity planning, and feasibility studies aligned with Uptime Institute Tier requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as Uptime Institute, TIA-942, NFPA, ASHRAE, and relevant local regulations.
  • Contribute to business growth through technical proposals, client presentations, and identifying opportunities for service enhancements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive electrical experience in planning, designing, and delivering large-scale data centers, including multiple Uptime Tier III/IV projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Centre Electrical infrastructure, Power distribution topologies, servers, storage, network systems, SCADA systems, power management, ELV, and security.
  • Experience in data center construction phasing and associated design planning.

Desirable Professional Certifications

Professional certifications such as Uptime Tier Certified Professional, PMP, LEED AP, or BICSI RCDD are highly desirable.

Technical and Communication Skills

  • Strong communication skills for effective client presentations, stakeholder workshops, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Familiarity with local and international codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ISO 50001, ISO 27001, PDPL, and ESMA.

This is a full-time position based in the Middle East region.
