About Elia Grid International and the Role

Elia Grid International (EGI) is a global engineering consultancy company, part of Elia Group (Belgium) and 50Hertz (Germany). EGI specializes in complex power system challenges, providing high-quality solutions for the energy transition. With offices in multiple countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, EGI is seeking a Senior Power System Expert to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time role focuses on reinforcing the Power System Operations and Security team.

Key Contributions

The Senior Power System Expert will contribute to local and international projects, specifically addressing the deep integration of renewable energy sources and Energy and Balancing Market Integration. This role involves working on initiatives related to RES integration, security of supply, sustainability, and the economic efficiency of Power Systems, applying expertise in transmission system operation.

Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities for this role will be determined based on the candidate's competencies and expertise, and will be discussed during interviews. Typical activities include:

  • Analysis and definition of operational principles for power systems.
  • Model definition and validation for power system components.
  • Performing steady-state calculations, such as load flow and short circuit analyses.
  • Conducting dynamic stability analysis, including frequency and voltage stability assessments.
  • Executing Grid Code requirement and connection compliance studies.
  • Supporting the analysis and evaluation of grid reliability and security, including capacity calculation, balancing, and operational planning.
  • Assisting the company’s business development teams by establishing client relationships and developing proposals for new opportunities.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates for this position should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Master's degree in Engineering or Applied Mathematics/Physics.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in Power System Operations and Security, covering balancing, RES system integration, system operation, and state-of-the-art technological solutions.
  • Experience with HVDC, FACTS, and Power Electronics related studies, including transient stability, fault analysis, and dynamic performance assessments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in translating complex data into key strategic insights and valuable actions.
  • Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as PowerFactory, PSSE, and PSCAD.

Work Environment and Benefits
