The Role of Senior Road Expert Highways Design

As a Senior Road Expert in Highways Design, you will provide independent senior highway engineering expertise, serving as a trusted advisor across complex infrastructure projects. This position ensures that highway designs are technically robust, compliant with relevant standards, safe, constructible, and effectively coordinated. The role supports efficient approvals, project delivery, and overall programme objectives within a full-time capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and assurance for highway design, ensuring compliance with standards, governance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Review and challenge design deliverables, identifying risks and promoting safe, coordinated, and constructible solutions.
• Support stakeholder engagement, authority approvals, and consultant oversight to facilitate effective project delivery.
• Deliver technical guidance, facilitate knowledge sharing, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to promote design excellence and value optimisation.
• Direct and manage design delivery, resources, and operational performance across projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Act as the focal point for design management, driving governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Support project delivery, procurement, and business development activities, contributing to successful client outcomes.
• Promote technical excellence, capability development, and collaboration, while supporting Mace’s net zero carbon commitments.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Chartered membership or equivalent professional engineering registration is preferred.
• Extensive years of experience in highway and road design, including major infrastructure projects, with a minimum of significant years of experience in the Middle East.
• Experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes within the consultancy sector.

Essential Skills and Expertise

• Strong expertise in geometric design, pavements, drainage, interchanges, and road safety.
• Proficiency in highway design software.
• Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement with regulatory authorities.
