Senior Data Engineer BigQuery (GCP/SAP Data) (m/f/d)

About the Role

Halian | Managed Services, Recruitment Agency & Contract Staffing is seeking a Senior Data Engineer BigQuery (GCP/SAP Data) for a contract position in Al Khobar, Eastern Province. This role supports a major enterprise cloud data transformation project focused on migrating critical Finance and HR reporting workloads from SAP BW on HANA to Google BigQuery.

Role Responsibilities

The Senior Data Engineer will take ownership of the data engineering layer, ensuring the successful migration and optimization of data processes. Key responsibilities include:

• Analyzing existing SAP BW data flows, including DataSources, DSOs, InfoCubes, transformations, ABAP routines, and APDs, and rebuilding transformation logic using BigQuery SQL.
• Ingesting and integrating data from SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and/or SAP BW into Google Cloud-based data platforms.
• Designing scalable BigQuery data models utilizing raw, curated, and reporting layers.
• Building complex data structures, including hierarchies, time-dependent master data, dimensional models, and star schemas.
• Developing, orchestrating, and monitoring data pipelines using Cloud Composer / Apache Airflow, including automated alerting for pipeline and load failures.
• Implementing data security within BigQuery, including row-level security (RLS), column-level security (CLS), authorized views, role-based access, and PII masking.
• Optimizing BigQuery workloads for performance and cost through partitioning, clustering, query optimization, and efficient data modeling.
• Building automated data-quality controls and reconciliation processes to validate migrated datasets against existing SAP BW reporting.
• Producing and maintaining data lineage, transformation documentation, and source-to-target mappings.
• Preparing governed AI-ready datasets for conversational analytics, predictive use cases, and downstream AI applications.
• Supporting downstream reporting and analytics solutions developed using Looker or custom web applications.
• Collaborating with business, Finance, HR, SAP, cloud, analytics, and reporting teams to validate business logic and data accuracy.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess 5-10 years of experience and demonstrate a strong focus on data accuracy, reconciliation, and quality. Key attributes include:

• Structured and detail-oriented approach to data management.
• Ability to work directly with SAP functional teams, business stakeholders, data engineers, and analytics teams to understand and reproduce complex transformation logic.
• Capability to independently manage technical deliverables and meet project timelines effectively.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, particularly concerning data mappings, transformation rules, lineage, and validation.

This role will also support the creation of high-quality, AI-ready datasets essential for advanced analytics, conversational analytics, and predictive use cases within the enterprise cloud data transformation project.
