About the Role
Baker Hughes is seeking a Lead Engineer - Fleet Management to join their Regional Product Service Engineering team in Dammam, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. This role is essential for supporting the operation and maintenance of critical heavy-duty gas turbines, aero turbines, centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, and their associated control, protection, and accessory systems. The position involves providing timely technical solutions, investigating anomalies, and ensuring the integrity of Baker Hughes' products in the field.
This role offers the opportunity to work with energy technology and contribute to global energy solutions. You will collaborate with a team of experts, interfacing between field operations and design engineering to drive technical resolutions and improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to customer requests for technical issue resolution, utilizing product knowledge, analytical skills, and engineering principles.
- Escalate issues as required, acting as a liaison between field and design engineering to drive technical resolutions and assist in identifying and implementing corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure their technical issues and requirements are understood and addressed promptly.
- Lead and program manage root cause analysis and investigation activities for product technical issues.
- Interface with Product Service, System, and Design Engineering teams, providing technical leadership to personnel supporting customer technical issue resolution projects.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations for Baker Hughes leaders and customers, communicating significant issues or developments.
- Travel to customer locations to support technical review meetings, present recommendations, and champion Baker Hughes' commitment to technical solutions.
- Support unplanned/forced outages to meet reliability and availability goals.
- Provide technical support to commercial teams for sales and services proposal activities.
- Plan and provide technical engineering oversight to Contractual Services and Field Services teams during planned outages to ensure reliability and availability goals are met.
- Partner with Design Engineering teams and interface with external and internal suppliers to facilitate the logistical implementation of fleet program technical solutions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electronics / Control & Instrumentation / Electrical & Electronics) or equivalent.
- 5-10 years of experience in design engineering, or operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Heavy Duty, Aero Derivative, and compressor control systems.
- Experience with Motor issues in EMCC driven trains.
- Strong working knowledge of MarkVI, MarkVIe, MarkVIeS, and Compressor Controls systems.
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motors, and their protection systems.
- Willingness to travel at short notice (20-25% of the time).
- Availability to work during weekends for emergency technical support.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Expertise in Heavy Duty gas turbines, Aero turbines, centrifugal compressors, and steam turbines.
- Proficiency in Controls systems, Protection systems, and Accessory systems.
- Strong technical issue resolution capabilities.
- Excellent technical product knowledge and analytical skills.
- Adherence to sound engineering principles, standards, practices, and procedures.
- Proven ability in root cause analysis.
- Skilled in preparing and delivering technical presentations.
- Experience in providing technical engineering oversight.
- Familiarity with MarkVI, MarkVIe, MarkVIeS, and Compressor Controls systems.
- Knowledge of VFDs, Motors, and Motor protection.
- Experience in a matrix leadership environment.
- Prior experience in design engineering or field maintenance/customer service facing roles.
- Effective communication skills, both to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Strong technical aptitude.
- Proficiency in English; Arabic speaking is considered a preference.
Work Environment and Location
This is a full-time position based in Dammam, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. The role involves travel to customer locations as required.
