About the Role

Astek is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Consultant to support one of our clients in the Makkah region, specifically in Jeddah or Makkah. This full-time role is dedicated to the administration, performance, security, and availability of mission-critical SQL Server environments.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the optimal functioning and integrity of the client's SQL Server infrastructure. The consultant will apply expertise to manage complex database systems, implement best practices, and maintain high standards of operational efficiency and data security.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances (2016/2019/2022).
• Manage high availability solutions including Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, and log shipping.
• Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades.
• Conduct query tuning, index optimization, and execution plan analysis.
• Monitor and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks using DMVs, Extended Events, and Profiler.
• Implement proactive monitoring and alerting mechanisms.
• Design and implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Perform restores, point-in-time recovery, and database integrity checks.
• Ensure compliance with RPO/RTO requirements.
• Manage users, roles, and permissions.
• Implement encryption, auditing, and compliance standards (including GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).
• Partner with InfoSec to enforce best practices.
• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Build scripts for monitoring, reporting, and database deployments.
• Work with developers to design efficient schemas, stored procedures, and queries.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs.
• Document standards, processes, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Experience and Skills

Candidates for this role should possess 2 to 5 years of professional experience in SQL Server database administration. Essential skills include proficiency with SQL Server versions 2016, 2019, and 2022, along with practical experience in managing high availability solutions, performance tuning, and implementing database security measures. The ability to automate tasks using PowerShell and T-SQL is also required.

Work Environment and Location

This is a full-time position supporting a client within the Makkah region. The primary work locations are in Jeddah and Makkah, requiring on-site presence to manage and support critical database operations effectively.
