About the Role

National Medical Care is seeking a Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position requires a professional dedicated to providing high-quality patient care within established medical ethics and standards.

Core Responsibilities

The Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology will be responsible for the comprehensive care of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients. This includes maintaining a high level of professional performance in accordance with professional medical ethics, JCIA standards, hospital by-laws, and Ministry of Health regulations. The role involves providing effective leadership within the department, ensuring a quality plan with measurable performance improvement standards specific to pediatric pulmonology.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the delivery of superior quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding to every patient.
  • Providing patient care within the scope of professional competence and clinical privileges for both in-patients and out-patients.
  • Practicing within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
  • Conducting regular ward rounds, individually or as part of a team, to formulate multi-disciplinary treatment plans, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the specialty.
  • Assessing and referring patients to appropriate medical facilities, and accepting referrals within the field of pediatric pulmonology.
  • Participating in the department's on-call rota for patient care and admissions.
  • Responding to emergencies to offer advice and actively participate in problem-solving related to the specialty.
  • Observing and upholding patient rights regarding security, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Maintaining accurate, legible, and timely patient records.
  • Providing leadership for performance improvement functions, including measurement, assessment, and improvement of clinical and non-clinical processes.
  • Actively participating in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital activities and external meetings.
  • Participating in training programs for junior medical staff, nursing staff, and technicians.
  • Continuously updating medical knowledge and upgrading professional skills.
  • Participating in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
  • Abiding by department policies, procedures, and hospital by-laws.
  • Educating patients and families according to their needs and hospital policies, including documentation.
  • Involving patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
  • Providing health promotion and health teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, and cultural background.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Saudi Board/Arab Board, American Board, or Canadian Fellowship, or MRCP, or Equivalent.
  • Registration with the Saudi Medical Council and/or a current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification experience is required.
  • Current, valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty.
  • Desirable: Higher qualifications in the specialty and/or academic affiliation.

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical by-laws.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.

Reporting and Supervision

The Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology will report to the Head, Department of Paediatrics. This role involves supervising Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, and other assigned paramedical staff.
