About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Neurologist to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive patient care for both inpatients and outpatients, adhering to the highest standards of evidence-based medicine, professional ethics, and regulatory requirements within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will also play a crucial leadership role in the Neurology department, driving performance improvement initiatives and ensuring the delivery of superior medical treatment and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to inpatients and outpatients, ensuring a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding.
- Practice within the scope of professional competence and clinical privileges, adhering to scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Conduct regular ward rounds, individually or as part of a multidisciplinary team, to formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the specialty of neurology.
- Assess and refer patients to appropriate medical facilities or accept referrals for patients with neurological conditions.
- Participate actively in the department's on-call rota for patient care and admissions.
- Respond to emergencies, offering advice and actively participating in patient management when required.
- Uphold patient rights concerning security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and timely patient medical records.
- Provide leadership in organizational performance and the supervision of assigned junior medical staff.
- Lead performance improvement functions, focusing on the measurement, assessment, and improvement of clinical and non-clinical processes as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.
- Actively participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital educational activities, including morning reports, grand rounds, tutorials, seminars, journal clubs, and conferences.
- Engage in national and international meetings, conferences, and symposia to stay abreast of advancements in the field.
- Participate in the review of literature, case reporting, and clinical studies/research.
- Contribute to training programs for junior medical staff and in-service training for nursing staff and technicians within the hospital.
- Continuously update medical knowledge and upgrade professional skills.
- Participate in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions and treatment plans, documenting this process thoroughly in patient medical records.
- Involve patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
- Provide health promotion and health teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, language preference, culture, and situation.
- Allocate sufficient time for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient education, ensuring appropriate documentation.
- Undertake any other assignments directed by Hospital Administration and/or the department head, within the scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Either American Board, Canadian Fellowship, MRCP, or equivalent qualification in Neurology.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience post-qualification in Neurology.
- Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty.
- Registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and/or a current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- Higher qualifications in the specialty are desirable.
- Additional experience in a sub-specialty within Neurology is desirable.
- An academic affiliation is desirable.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical by-laws.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Communication in spoken Arabic is desirable.
Work Environment and Reporting
This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Consultant Neurologist will report to the Head, Department of Internal Medicine. The role involves liaising with consultants of the same and other specialties, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families. The position also includes supervision of Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, and other paramedical staff assigned to the Consultant.
